Following on from 2008’s M1 Hommage and 2011’s 328 Hommage is the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage, which is set to be unveiled May 22 at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.
As the name suggests, the design study pays homage to the legendary E9 BMW 3.0 CSL of the 1970s. Nicknamed the ‘Batmobile’ thanks to its sharp shark nose, deep front dam and prominent rear wing, the 3.0 CSL was a homologation special for eligibility in the European Touring Car Championship.
The Hommage will have “striking air deflectors, powerful wheel arches and a prominent roof and rear spoiler,” whilst employing some carbon-fibre in the name of lightness – a major theme of the original CSL (well, what do you think the L stands for?). As such, we can expect the interior to be a no-frills, no-fluff one, too.
Think of the Hommage series as classic Beemers reimagined for the 21st century, and as both the M1 and 328 Hommages looked deliciously retro, there’s no reason for this one not to be an absolute stunner. May 22, come quick, please.
