SPIED: 2016 Toyota Prius caught testing in Thailand!

image-2

It appears that the new 2016 Toyota Prius is being tested in Thailand! These pictures cropped up through the Thai Headlight Magazine forum, showing the upcoming fourth-gen hybrid wearing quite a bit less disguise than previously seen.

Even so, details of the new car are still very much obscured; what is clear now, however, is that apart from retaining the Prius’ iconic Kamm back profile, it will also feature a low, downturned nose similar to the one on the current Prius c.

It also appears that the wing mirrors will be joined to the base of the A-pillar like its smaller sibling, rather than being affixed on the doors as a separate piece like on the current regular Prius.

The next-generation Toyota Prius will be the first car built on the modular Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) and will be available in both regular and plug-in versions as before. It will make use of smaller, yet more energy-dense motors and batteries, as well as a more efficient internal-combustion engine for improved fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

Kimchis still can’t even get their staple production cars in order, let alone trying to venture into high tech variants.

But I would encourage all sorhai tai lan ngongs to buy them new for obvious reasons

Madani and MAI told Malaysians Government was moving forward with EEV vehicles. Honda and Toyota invested billions to CKD the Civic, Jazz and Camry in Malaysia.

Thousands of people also went out to buy Hybrids also cause they trusted MAI and Madani’s instruction that Government now only wanted to move towards EEV.

Now Government pull the plug on EEV.

    Honda and Toyota lost billions.

Thousands of people who bought Hybrids also now stuck with their cars. Tak laku in the 2nd hand market. Nobody wants to buy Hybrid for fear the price become like yoyo.

Insurance premium also jacked up. Last time, you though insure a RM150,000 car. Now the car is RM250,000. Insurance companies also naik their premiums.

Parts also gone up substantially because parts are no more tax free.

Hybrid battery also now gone up a lot in price.

Poor owners of Hybrid. They thought they can save money. Now, more money come out of their pockets.

A nice nod to ASEAN that Toyota decided to do (most probably high heat and high humidity) road tests for an upcoming popular car in Thailand. But why are they testing in densely populated town area, where many curious ppl might see the prototypes?

The new Prius will be built & assembled in Thailand instead of Japan

So expect the new Prius to be much cheaper in Bolehland soon, as under AFTA, max import tax is 5% but out great gahmen will slap a ridiculous amount of excise duty on it

Good one Toyota, at least they are acknowledging the fact that hot and humid countries will kill their vehicles even quicker than hot and dry countries!

It is not the new Prius that we should be concerned about… It is for the fact that it is tested in Thailand.
We as a nation are getting less competitive when compared to our neighbours. Despite their record of political instability, and yet car makers choose Thailand over Malaysia…
And we are still feel so damn proud about our 10th anniversary Myvi… Gosh..

  • Sam Loo (ori1), Sammy, this prius needs to pass hot and humid climate test to be ensured that it can be sold in wider markets. Furthermore, it is our own interest to cut air pollution to support electric vehicles …
