Two new variants of the Renault Megane RS hot hatch have been announced for the 2016 model year, and both boast 10 hp more. The new tally is 275 hp from the 2.0 litre turbocharged engine of the limited-edition RM300k 275 Trophy-R which is capable of lapping the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes 54.36 seconds.
With 360 Nm of torque from 3,000 to 5,000 rpm, and power going to the front wheels via a six-speed manual, the new 275 does 0-100 km/h in 6.0 seconds flat. Top speed is 254 km/h. With the aid of Stop & Start, the EU6-compliant motor is good for an NEDC combined fuel economy of 13.3 km/l.
The Renaultsport Dynamic Management system gives access to the full 275 hp via three modes linked to the ESC. In Normal mode, you get 250 hp, standard throttle mapping and the ESC fully on. Sport mode raises the power to 275 hp with sport throttle mapping and later ESC intervention. Race is per Sport, but switches off the ESC completely.
The new 275 Cup-S variant offers a lower entry point than before (£23,935 in the UK, RM154,295). Chassis notes include the PerfoHub double-axis front suspension and the Cup Chassis Pack with mechanical limited-slip differential, red paint on the Brembo four-pot brake calipers, firmer springs and dampers and a stiffer anti-roll bar. The standard wheels are 18-inch ‘Tibor’ alloys with Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres.
Track enthusiasts will be happy with the options list, which includes Ohlins Road & Track adjustable dampers with Dual Flow Valve tech and a hydraulic compression stop at the front. The dampers are adjustable with 20 positions at the front and 30 at the rear. Also available are a Akrapovic titanium exhaust system (cuts four kg, louder), Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber and 19-inch Speedline rims.
The second model is the £25,935 (RM167,179) 275 Nav, which gets the softer Sport chassis as standard, although the Cup chassis is available as a £1,350 (RM8,702) option.
The 275 Nav builds on the spec of the Cup-S with additional kit such as auto lights and wipers, dual-zone AC, keycard entry system, rear parking sensors with colour camera, sunvisor with illumination, chrome RS door sill plates, a 4x35W sound system and the R-Link v2 multimedia and navi system.
A unique option on the 275 Nav is the Leather Pack with heated front seats, carbon grey leather upholstery, electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory and adjustable lumber support. Leather Recaros are an option on both variants.
Both are available in standard Glacier White or six metallic colours: Arctic White, Diamond Black, Mercury Silver, Titanium Grey as well as the new Flame Red pictured here – first seen on the Clio RS – and the trademark Liquid Yellow. Still desirable after all these years.

That Overpriced price tag is so lame
Now the hardcore Cup version is cheaper and its comfy Sport version…total opposite pricing from the ones we have here haha.
But it should be that way coz the comfy Sport adds on more kit and although most would prefer Cup to round Sepang on Renault track days, I’d prefer the Sport no thanks to my soft back!
