VIDEO: ‘Rebirth of an Icon’ goes behind the scenes of the 2016 Ford Focus RS, series to premiere on Sept 30

Ford has revealed a new trailer for its Rebirth of an Icon series that will premiere on September 30. Said eight-episode documentary will take viewers behind the scenes on the development of what is, arguably, one of the hottest hatches to have been presented in recent memory, the 2016 Ford Focus RS.

The minute-and-a-half trailer previews bits and bobs of the documentary that aims to showcase each and every step of the gestation of the Ford Focus RS – from the project kickoff in the first episode right up to the hatch’s 2015 Goodwood appearance in the final chapter. A new episode is slated to air every week.

To recap, the 2016 Ford Focus RS will be the third of its kind following on from the debut of the original in 2002 to the introduction of the second-generation model in 2009. The latest iteration was previewed earlier on this year before making its physical debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March.

Under the bonnet of the Focus RS lies a Mustang-derived turbocharged 2.3 litre EcoBoost four-cylinder engine with 350 PS at 6,800 rpm and 440 Nm from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm. All that grunt gets sent to the road via a Ford Performance AWD system with Dynamic Torque Vectoring and a six-speed manual transmission.

As revealed not too long ago, the 2016 Ford Focus RS will rocket from rest to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds before achieving its official top speed of 266 km/h. Already available to order in Europe, the assembled-in-Germany hi-po hatch will be delivered to customers at the start of 2016.

Actually I’m really excited for this.

VW could do one showing the birth of the next Golf GTI, or maybe, how they beat the EPA system with their TDI engine.

That’s the Power of German Engineering ™.
