As previously reported, Ford Australia has trademarked the titles “Ranger Raptor” and “Ranger FX4.” Now, a new report has surfaced, stating that a Ford Ranger Raptor model is a strong possibility for 2019, according to CarsGuide.
Jamal Hameedi, global performance vehicle engineer at Ford Motor Company, was reportedly in Australia to “assess” the possibility of a Ranger Raptor, to be applied to the next-generation pick-up truck. Should the Raptor be confirmed, it will sit above the Wildtrak model as the Ranger’s high performance range-topper.
“At the end of the day, we would love to do a vehicle like that (the Ranger Raptor) but it all comes down to the business case. How many can we sell?” he asked, regarding the model’s production feasibility. He did, however, acknowledge that there is “strong interest in such a vehicle,” especially in Australia.
Rumours are that should the Ranger Raptor become a reality, it will likely be powered by a high-powered diesel engine, instead of an uptuned EcoBoost petrol engine like in the upcoming F-150 Raptor. The Ranger 3.2 already has outputs of 197 hp and 470 Nm of torque, so a new model that’s significantly more powerful will surely be quite a sight, right?
