SPYSHOTS: Porsche 911 GT3 facelift runs on the ‘Ring

Spy-Photo

With the standard Porsche 911 and its Turbo and Turbo S variants already receiving their own respective facelifts, it’ll soon be the turn of the GT3 to get its nip and tuck, judging by photos of this prototype.

As before, the track-biased sports car has been spotted by our European spy photographers on the Nordschleife track at the Nürburgring, wearing a revised front fascia to match the rest of the lineup. Although the mule is still wearing disguise at the front, one can spot the three larger air intakes at the front that should give the car an even more aggressive look than before.

While the car appears to retain the big LED indicators at the corners of the bumper, those are actually fake. We expect the real deal to have slimline indicators like on the other revised models. The rest of the car remains the same as before, but we would be surprised if the final production model didn’t get the revised door handles and three-dimensional LED tail lights seen on other facelifted 991 models.

More changes are expected inside as well, including a Porsche Communication Management infotainment system with a seven-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay connectivity and navigation with Google Earth and Google Streetview integration.

Under the skin, the 3.8 litre naturally-aspirated flat-six should remain – no turbos here just yet – but, like the Turbo and Turbo S, it should be tweaked here to deliver a bit more power, beyond the current car’s 475 hp.

However, a much bigger change is expected, which would be a boon for enthusiasts – a six-speed manual transmission, this time from the limited-run 911 R purist special, is expected to make a return between the seats. Of course, the current seven-speed PDK dual clutch transmission will remain an option.
