BYD claims it makes the world’s best electric cars

“If you aren’t first, you’re last.” While that quote may sound familiar, it’s what carmaker BYD is striving for, as explained in its corporate video. Released by BYD of Brazil, the video claims that the China-based corporation makes the “best quality world electric cars.” Yes, those exact words.

It starts off by showing the design process carried out at BYD. The next part goes on to the processes involved in manufacturing a BYD car, which shows the company’s various state-of-the art equipment as well.

The tests that the company chose to elaborate upon, include 2,000 hours of fully-loaded engine test runs and exposure to extremely low and high temperatures, along with acid and corrosive tests. As for safety, BYD noted that over hundreds of vehicle crash tests are performed on a single vehicle and the entire car must meet China NCAP’s five-star rating.

“Every vehicle must be top-notch, for we know when the vehicle rolls off the assembly line, the race has just begun. Each vehicle must past sealing, performance, sound insulation and electromagnetic interference tests,” the narrator explained.

As for the “revolutionary” iron-phosphate batteries, BYD stated that it must past the industry’s most rigorous tests. “Roasting” of the battery to 1,000 degrees, 100 tonne impact, penetration, drop and vibration tests, are among the few.

Elsewhere, the company has launched two new pure electric models in the form of sedans. The Qin EV300 will come in four versions with prices ranging from 259,800 to 309,800 yuan (RM157k to RM187k). The other, is called the e5 which will have three variants and prices ranging from 228,800 to 249,800 yuan (RM138k to RM151k).

The Qin EV300 with its high-speed permanent magnet synchronous motor, is said to generate 214 hp and 310 Nm of torque and will go from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. It claims a travel range of 300 km on a single charge. Both cars feature a vehicle-to-load (VToL) function that allows the vehicle to act as an electric supply to appliances such as cookers, refrigerators, power tools and the like.

Tu la… we all gelak kat China last time… so bangga la with Lotus handling la, Proton design la, fuel hungry Campro.

Now who’s the joke? Our “national pride” now is too cash strapped to pay its suppliers, reliant on govt bailout to run day-to-day operation.

The Chinese car already better safety equipped, much higher ABS and ESP adoption rate, and now they’re getting better at design, technology, etc.

Sell Proton to China better like this.

Cheap to buy, cheap to maintain, reliable and a longer distance capable of doing per 1 full charge – that’s what it really counts.

not a joke….considering most of the electrical stuff is made in china or india now….electric cars which does not exactly need engine building knowledge of the “developed” nations can end up becoming the forte of these new giants

Before you laugh … “BYD Auto sold a total of 506,189 passenger cars in China in 2013, making it the tenth-largest selling brand and the largest selling Chinese brand.[4] BYD Auto was the world’s best selling manufacturer of highway legal light-duty plug-in electric vehicles in 2015, with over 60,000 plug-in hybrid and all-electric cars sold.”

Best Electric Cars In The World? Isn’t it then a slap in the face to the CEO (Elon Musk) of TESLA? I think Elon must be laughing on his toes.

before we disregard BYD or poke fun with the brand name, note this, BYD is the among the world’s largest OEM hybrid battery supplier to most car manufacturers. They also build electric Buses and Hybrid Electric Buses. Situated in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, PRC China. And in shenzhen, they are noted for electronics and instrument manufacturers and global supplier for automotive components, which many people do not know, other than global electronics, computers and Auto parts manufacturers. So bottomline, BYD will not face much difficulty in producing the world’s best electric cars, what is their shortcoming is the fact that their vehicle designs are lame copies of old Toyota altis, estima and Harriers.

BYD is very advance in battery technology, I believe their battery is powering the Chinese 039B AIP Submarine also.

I think you may be correct about the submarine but not very advanced car batteries. Potassium is old and inefficient technology. They need to move forward.
