VIDEO: Porsche 718 Cayman isn’t short of good vocals

After introducing its new 718 Cayman, Porsche has now released its first video promo of the new sports car. Now packing a downsized four-cylinder turbo, similar to its soft-top sibling, the Cayman also gains the heritage-filled ‘718’ moniker in its model designation as well.

In this sub-two-minute video, we are treated to a pair of 718 Caymans as they make their way around town. Turn up the volume, and you’ll be glad to know that the turbo four-pots are still capable of providing a vicious snarl and lovely grunts. Still miss the old flat-six motors?

As a recap, the 718 Cayman comes with either a 2.0 litre turbo-four or a larger 2.5 litre unit (on the S variant). Power figures for the boxers are 300 hp/380 Nm and 350 hp/420 Nm, respectively. That is more than the outgoing model’s output by some 25 hp and up to 90 Nm (50 Nm for the S).

The hardtop version of the 718 Boxster also receives an update to its chassis, with stiffer springs and thicker anti roll bar, quicker steering, and wider rear wheels. Larger brakes are also part of the performance upgrades here. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with a 10 mm lower ride height (20 mm lower in the S) is available as well.

Visual enhancements here are in the same light as the 718 Boxster, with new bumpers front and rear. A new highlight and obvious identifier is a new accent strip in high-gloss black with integrated Porsche badge between the tail lights. Inside, a 918 Spyder-like steering wheel is complemented with the carmaker’s latest information system.

Sounds like Iswara VR4 with external wastegate and secondhand K&N filter.

On a Subaru it sounds epic. But on a Porsche coupe/convertible, emmm…….. Something is odd.
