Pirelli Dragon Sport tyres – exclusively for Asia-Pacific

Pirelli Dragon Sport-02

A new performance tyre has been launched by Pirelli in Shanghai. Called Pirelli Dragon Sport, the new tyre will be available exclusively for the Asia-Pacific market, CarAdvice reports.

Offered in a total of 16 different sizes from 17- to 20-inch and widths ranging from 215 mm to 275 mm, the tyre is made from a full silica compound. It has a lightweight feature set, which gives low rolling resistance and is focused on sports driving, without sacrificing comfort, Pirelli claims.

The tyre form features transversal grooves for enhanced braking performance along with four broader grooves for water dispersion and a distinctive shoulder rib. It also has a squarer footprint, which results in increased road contact and subsequently, better tyre performance.

During the development process, the engineering team put alternative Pirelli tyre models and its competitors tyres to the test. The results showed that braking and dry handling performance was up by 5%, while wet handling performance showed improved performance by up to 10%.

Its competitors include the Michelin Pilot Sport 3, Bridgestone Potenza RE003 and the like. The Dragon Sport tyre is manufactured at Pirelli’s Yanzhou plant in China. Pirelli expects to expand the product offering in the next few months.

Wow they went and benchmark their product with the PS3 which is ancient. Try looking at the new PS4 which outperforms the PSS in certain areas.

Probably during the time they desinged this tyre that PS4 did not exist? Anyway if the wet performance is better than ps3 then thats a good thing. not like we know what that 5% means anyway.

But nowhere in the article did they mention dry handling and braking performance? That is one of the main criteria for a sport-ish tyre.

  • Give me free also i dont want. pirelli tyres are overpriced and fail during hard driving. Look up what Jeremy Clarkson said about them.
