For the month of April 2016, Hyundai has been ranked the top-selling passenger car brand in Australia for the first time in its history. The Korean brand managed to beat out popular brands such as Toyota and Mazda.
According to VFACTS data posted by CarAdvice, Hyundai managed to shift 8,643 vehicles last month. Discounting its SUVs and commercial vehicles, the brand sold 6,324 passenger cars.
Said figure (6,324) accounted for 17.2% of Australia’s total passenger car sales last month, ahead of Toyota (6,035), Mazda (4,062), Holden (3,514), Volkswagen (3,068), Ford (2,045), Kia (2,011), Mercedes-Benz (1,850), BMW (1,298) and Audi (1,131).
Diving deeper into the numbers, the Hyundai i30 was the brand’s best-seller for the month of April, with 4,143 units sold due to the discounted pricing ahead of the introduction of the next-generation i30. The Hyundai Accent meanwhile, contributed 1,555 units, besting the likes of the Mazda 2 (1,051) and Toyota Yaris (930) in the same class.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Oh ni, dear Australian, do you know Kimchi do not have RV?
Kimchi doing so well. Hyundai now sells 9 million vehicles worldwide. What an achievement! Even in the US, they are putting Japanese to shame. In Australia, like the article says, NO 1 seller. Bravo to kimchi. Bravo!
Where is Proton? Proton still maintains fancy showroom all over the world. Like in Singapore, they maintain expensive showroom, they pay the abang abang expat pay and give them a free holiday and to lepak.
Last year, in Singapore alone, Proton sold a grand total of one car. I put it in worlds, one Proton sold. Satu Proton sahaja dijual.
But Proton will spend few hundred thousand ringgit to maintain the showroom and pay the abang abang to have a great holiday but profit maybe only RM2k from the only Proton sold in Singapore.
The same with London. Proton still maintains a super expensive showroom there with virtually ZERO sales.
I thought Proton is the best selling car brand in Malaysia?
That’s why they can achieve 100% in sales increase.
Hyundai is such a good car. It tak laku in Malaysia because Sime Darby GLC is their owner. Being a GLC, their attitude is like Government. Lepak, relax and tidur.
You send your car to Hyundai for service and repair, 1 whole day also cannot repair. This is because, they have the Government attitude, 8x a day have tea break. Minum teh, makan kuih lapis dan karipap.
You send your Honda, Toyota or Nissan to SC. Within 3 hours everything is done including the free wash
This is why Hyundai is failing in Malaysia.
i thought some ppl said UMW is also GLC. Oh yeah because its a sushi and it has got good service and good RV.
wow..it is contradict with its little brother KIA..u send your car and as u said, 3 hour or less everything is done including the free wash..are u sure hyundai inmalaysia is like that??if yes, better they close shop then..
Wheres honda…where where…not even listed…
I just dont understand why is this pariasamy allowed to condemn the country everyday…what is paul tan doing.. come on laa hv some respect…an embarassment to the country
I don’t understand why Proton is allowed to suck our country for 30 years and people still supporting it. If Hyundai can be top seller globally, why Proton still asking protection in own country? It’s an embarrassment to the country
Hyundai has been producing good cars for a number of years now, they are selling well in many countries but under appreciated by the Bodoh Malaysians.
o’ small minds who’ve never seen beyond these shores…the whole “RV” conversation a lot of Malaysians like to debate about doesn’t apply everywhere else in the world.
the Ford Focus was the global selling nameplate and had great RV in many countries, but it doesn’t sell so well here in MY.
the Hyundai Elantra at one time was the #1 selling nameplate in the US (but RV is irrelevant to them because cars are dirt cheap and used as workhorses)
Meanwhile, Hyundai went from bad to worse in Malaysia. Inokom and Sime Darby/ HSDM need to up their game. Bring in the cheaper Euro Hyundais like the i10 and i20 and CKD them here if possible. All of their models except the Tucson, i40 and Genesis are not competitive. Unfortunately, the new Elantra won’t stand a chance against the new Civic, but HSDM shouldn’t give up so fast.
The best thing Inokom and HSDM have been doing lately is exporting some Hyundais to Thailand, they should continue their efforts.
You like Australia so much go live there… BN only like supporters that follow rules and pay taxes until died. Rakyat bankrupts because mostly of car loan let them all be… Ministry can continue drive Benz and BMW with owning multi properties ! BN hidup !!!
Well done.
During the early-mid nighties, when Hyundai was trying to penetrate the Aussie market, they had to sell at a very competitive price with “unlimited mileage” warranty to over the poor quality stigma.
They have certainly come a long way.
Proton was there too in the nighties. The outcome couldnt be more different.
Where is Australian Proton Preve and Suprima sales?
Hyundai…why in Bolehland tak laku?
I think it has to do with the distributor.
Even kangaroos in Australia salute Hyundai’s sales to the orang putih.
Hyundai is not bad internationally.
Our local distributorship….as usual RILAX,DAPAT GAJI ON TIME,….HUIYOH…Amoi passing by…if cannot,will get bailout like protong’s 1.5 Billion.
every year also wait for BR1M and will say syukur kerajaan prihatin rakyat didahulukan…
Every year when i receive BR1M, i will say:
Syukurlah ada BN!
Elantra now got cheap sale in Malaysia now. GO and buy lah, quick
The advertising of their dealers are really crappy gimmicks. A few months back I called up 2 of their dealers to enquire about their advertised 2015 Elantra ‘new’ stock at RM69,xxx but instead got the reply that the price does not include miscelaneous, gst, ..etc amounting to an extra RM10k+ on top of the advertised price.
If the car market is open like smartphone market, expect the Koreans to top the standing. Too bad it’s monopolized by cronies.
I won’t go as far as Koreans beating japanese but if you had one of the recent models from 3-4 years back, they had really improved and does gives the Japanese some hard time. Of course, every car has its pros and cons. For one, I hate the sunroof and their after sales services. Other than that, it was quite decent.
Even my bmw don’t have keyless entry and reverse camera which i bought last year while my 70k kimchi already have those and even came with a sunroof and the aircon don’t even smell.
Don’t believe bmw aircon smell (especially when you start your engine), go ask those bimmer owners. They have to periodically disinfect the aircon due to lousy design of the evaporators. The only plus point the bmw beat the koreans, is their engine power, transmission and handling.
Lets replicate this in Bolehland.
Can’t wait for this to happen. Need more sorhai tai lan ngongs to buy new kimchis
I have very little experience with cars. But traveling around Korea in taxis recently, I was really amazed at how powerful and smooth the rides in the taxis were on hilly mountain steep roads. And all taxis were either a Kia or Hyundai. Which makes me think that it is a real pity that good cars in Malaysia fail merely due to lackluster servicing. Perhaps too, the principal bears the responsibility of assessing the performance of their appointed agent. It makes no sense for a good car that is well priced to have poor sales.
