Following its launch in Peninsular Malaysia, the facelifted Subaru Forester has officially arrived in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. In conjunction with the launch, Sebangga Auto also took the opportunity to announce its role as the authorised dealer of Subaru cars in Sabah.

All variants are now available in Sabah, with the Forester 2.0i priced at RM148,009.90, the Forester 2.0i-P at RM157,549.90 and the top-of-the-range Forester 2.0XT at RM211,504.56. Prices quoted are on-the-road figures for East Malaysia, excluding insurance.

The 2.0i and 2.0i-P variants are locally-assembled CKD units, while the 2.0XT is a CBU unit, fully-imported from Japan. All variants come with a five-year/100,000 km warranty and a three-year/60,000 km free service package as well.

The facelifted Forester gets a new grille design, with a repositioned Subaru logo. The base 2.0i gets a different bumper from the 2.0i-P and XT, along with halogen reflector headlamps and DRLs. As for wheels, the 2.0i and 2.0i-P share the same 17-inch set with 225/60R17 tyres. LED headlamps with Steering Responsive Headlight function are available on the 2.0i-P and the XT model. The latter comes with larger 18-inch rims with 225/55R18 tyres.

Inside, the layout remains mostly the same save for a new steering wheel, gear selector, aluminium pedals and revised graphics on the instrument cluster. A new TFT LCD colour display, dashboard-mounted multi-info colour display and paddle shifters can be found on the 2.0i-P and 2.0 XT models.

Meanwhile, the mid- and top-spec models come with four-way electric-powered front driver (with memory function) and passenger seats and a power rear lift gate. The CKD models get a Kenwood double-DIN touchscreen headunit, while the 2.0 XT is fitted with a premium audio system with Harman Kardon speakers. All variants come with a reverse camera as standard.

As for power, the 2.0i and 2.0i-P get a 150 PS/198 Nm 2.0 litre NA four-cylinder DOHC petrol unit (FB20) and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The XT however, comes with a direct-injection, turbocharged unit with 241 PS and 350 Nm. All engines are mated to a Lineartronic CVT gearbox, with the XT variant getting a slightly enhanced version to handle the extra power.

Safety-wise, all Forester variants come equipped with seven airbags (dual front, sides and curtains, driver’s knee), Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), Hill Start Assist, ring-shaped reinforcement frame and ABS (with EBD and BA) as standard.

According to Motor Image, it is targeting to sell a total of 6,450 Subaru cars nationwide for 2016, with 30% of that number to come from East Malaysia. The brand will be expanding its dealers in Sabah, to include Sandakan and Tawau by the end of 2016, while in Sarawak, it aims to have two new branches in Miri and Bintulu by Q2 of 2017.
