Skoda Atero Concept – a ‘Rapid Coupe’ by students

Skoda Atero Concept-05

We’ve seen some pretty interesting apprentice-designed concepts from Volkswagen, including the latest VW Golf GTI Heartbeat Concept for Wörthersee 2016, but here’s something more comprehensive from the students of Skoda Academy – the Skoda Atero Concept.

The 4.3-metre Skoda Atero Concept is a fully-functional coupe that started life as the five-door Skoda Rapid Spaceback hatch. The team of four young women and 22 young men from the Skoda vocational school in Mladá Boleslav moved the hatch’s B pillars rearwards, and gave the car a sloping roofline, plus upwards-pointing window edges behind the doors. It’s a bigger redesign compared to the previous CitiJet convertible and Funstar pick-up truck student efforts.

Other additions include vents on the bonnet (slightly overboard), extended doors, a spoiler on the newly-angled tailgate, modified tail lights and an exhaust system from the Octavia RS. Also from the bigger Skoda are the 18-inch ‘Turini’ multi-spoke wheels in black. LED headlamps and plenty of ‘Corrida Red’ accents on the Atero’s ‘Black Magic’ body, too.

Students can’t live without music, so the Atero comes with a 1,800-watt sound system with 14 speakers. A 400-watt subwoofer sits in the boot.

“This was a unique occasion for everyone to meet new people, to form new friendships across all professions, and to test and put theoretical knowledge into practice. This project took about 1,700 working hours to complete, and we are all very proud of the result,” said team spokesman Dan Voce. The project started at the end of 2015.

The Skoda vocational school was founded in 1927 and offers three- and four-year training courses in technical subjects, leading to either an apprenticeship diploma or a school leaving certificate for university access. Currently, almost 900 full-time students are enrolled in 14 vocational courses, and around 100 employees are currently improving their existing qualifications with further training courses. Upon successful completion, all graduates are offered a job at VW’s Czech brand.

Of course it looks similar to the preve/suprima as they are both designed by giugario. Other similar cars are the Waja and vw bora, as both was designed by EDAG Germany.
