Were you in Mid Valley over the weekend? You’d have no doubt seen the Mitsubishi roadshow at centre court if you were. The star of the show was the Mitsubishi Outlander, now CKD locally assembled at Tan Chong’s Segambut plant and available with a 2.0 litre engine. We were there to get pics of the reloaded seven-seater SUV, which was first revealed a little over two weeks ago.
Currently, the CKD Outlander 2.0 4WD complements the CBU imported from Japan Outlander 2.4 4WD, which was launched here in April 2016. Word is that Mitsubishi Motor Malaysia is looking at a CKD 2.4 litre variant, but it’ll come at a higher price point than what we have here, which has an introductory price of RM139,988 until the end of 2017. The CBU 2.4 remains at RM171,000.
The base Outlander is powered by a 2.0 litre MIVEC engine with 145 PS and 196 Nm of torque (167 PS and 222 Nm for the 2.4L). The naturally aspirated four-cylinder unit is paired to a CVT automatic gearbox and MMC’s Multi Select 4WD system, which has 4WD Eco (FWD, default), 4WD Auto and 4WD Lock modes. Claimed fuel consumption is 13.7 km/l.
The CKD Outlander 2.0’s exterior does not look very different from the 2.4. The LED DRLs, LED rear signatures, shark fin antenna, reverse camera (with guide lines) and front/rear parking sensors are all there, and it even gets the same 18-inch wheels. No LED headlamps though; the 2.0 gets halogen projectors.
Inside, the 2.0 litre SUV loses the 2.4’s leather seats, steering paddle shifters, sunroof, electronic parking brake, auto-dimming rear view mirror, powered driver’s seat and powered tailgate. It still gets things like keyless entry and push start, auto headlamps and wipers, dual-zone auto air con and a 7.0-inch touchscreen head unit with Air Gesture Controls and Apple CarPlay.
In terms of safety kit, the CKD 2.0L matches the CBU 2.4L – it comes with seven airbags, Active Stability Control and Hill Start Assist. There’s also a new wide-angle dashcam and security and solar window tint.
The Ruby Black colour you see here is new and exclusive to both the 2.0L variant and Malaysia – the other 2.0L colour options are Red Metallic and Solar White. The warranty is for five years, unlimited mileage. We’ve also included a gallery of the CBU 2.4L below for you to compare.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Under powered 4WD in the making.
Not for me !!
Boyue 1.8T 200hp gooder
Volvo s60 better than this.
Please compare suv to suv. Not sedan to suv or 4wd.
Outlander has lighter weight than X-Trail or CRV, same 2.0 engine, if this is under power, so are the rest.
CRV got the 1.5 turbo engine and is fuel economical.
It is definitely better and faster than the outlander ( 2.0 NA engine) with 190 HP in tap.
As for X trail , it is more economical to run and maintain than any Mitsubishi Outlander even the horsepower is more or less same for 2.0 engine .
Anyway, i always observe X trail struggling very hard to drive fast uphill so it is not surprise this Mitsubishi Outlander will be same shit with CVT transmission without turbo boast!!
CRV is fuel guzzler, more than lembu minum air campro
It’s all about the gearing of the transmission and the power per kg
will be great if they bring in the new Pajero Sport here
The perfect 7 seater SUV for the average Malaysian family. Expect more reasonable prices when Proton badged.
How can it be perfect when there are no rear ac vents? Even small sedan has rear ac vents these days…
Spec looks good on paper. Hope it drives well also
Nice…………
If 7-seated X-Trail & Outlander cost rm130k.
This only tell 1 things, both 5-seated Mazda CX5 & Honda CRV with 1-level-up profit margin, sohai buyer paid 20k extra for only 5 seats.
Such a good looking car. Top Quality also. If junk Boyue is about RM100k, I rather add a bit more money to buy a proper Japanese SUV from a company that has stood the test of time.
At least my RV after 2 years will still be about RM100k. But my Boyue, after 2 years, will be RM40k
If Boyue is priced below rm40k , it will sell…
I saw Lancer and Inspira RV are very similar, lol
the car won’t be sold well without 2nd & 3rd rows air-cond vents? do u know this is the biggest failure of this car? if you don’t know what customers want, then better don’t sell
why buy the ckd…when the cbu models can give discount until similar prices as this ckd 2.0….
what a joke, without the aircond vent at the back.
bring in your Xpander rather than this junk.
Or they could bring in the PHEV variant
(Yawn) no adaptive cruise control
I can see so many blank switches in the interior.
Mitsubishi Motor Malaysia..kami tak nak Out-Lander, kami nak All New Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Thailand, Indonesia & Singapore serta Filipina dah sampai. Out-Lander please go OUT from our shore.
Reduce price by 50%
let us stop buying this kosong spec/underpowered Outlander. Before the year end, Mitsu surely give 20% discount……Then durian runtuh time…..kekekeke
Maybe if Mitsu add rear ac will add cost 10k lol…this is not japan, weather so hot on this bolehland
Out of curiousity, does the head unit got auxiliary input? Cannot find in those pics…
Almost 2 months driving the outlander 2.0 red metallic. Underpower???just nice for overtaking & speeding. Is it too hot during sunny day?just set 23celcius with the fan speed 3 or 4/8 during hot climate. Cold enough for 2nd & 3rd row. Fuel consumption? Slightly at par with Xtrail 2.0 & much more economical compared to CRV 2.0. Value for money? 100% recommended for the Safety, comfortable & economical.
kah kah kah.. u r right john davis. a lot of keyboard warrior n third class mind comment.
