Mitsubishi to work with Indonesian government on expanding EV development in the republic

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has announced that it will be working with the Indonesian government to expand the use and availability of electric vehicles (EV) in the republic. The two parties have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore various aspects of development on this front.

The automaker said that the government will examine the potential for new policies and incentive programmes to encourage users and manufacturers to go the EV route. Indonesia has stated its ambition to encourage the development of EVs as part of its strategy to reduce CO2 emissions.

Other immediate measures will include both parties conducting a joint study to examine the efficient usage of EVs in the country.

To kick-start the programme, MMC said it was providing 10 EVs and four charging units to the Indonesian ministry of industry and a range of other organisations, including national universities and research institutes.

According to MMC CEO Osamu Masuko, the automaker was pleased to be playing its part in helping to reduce emissions in Indonesia and in supporting the country’s transition to a low carbon economy. He added that the move also demonstrates the importance of Indonesia in the automaker’s plans for future growth.

Indonesia is highly focused. The Government of Indonesia know what they want.

In Malaysia, we are still waiting for Perodua and Prootn to give us EV

Both are in deep slumber. Tido

  • Indon dun need EV cars, they need EV buses & trains. Otherwise 4 hour daily gridlock traffic will still remain, only much silent than b4.
