At long last, the Proton X70 – the national carmaker’s first-ever SUV – has made its official launch debut in Malaysia. With prices starting from RM99,800 on-the-road without insurance, buyers will get to choose from four variants – Standard 2WD, Executive 2WD, Executive AWD and Premium 2WD.
Regardless of which one you go for, all four are powered by a 1.8 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that makes 184 PS (181 hp) and 285 Nm of torque. A six-speed torque converter automatic transmission is also standard across the range, with drive going to the front wheels, excluding the Executive AWD that comes with all-wheel drive.

Am I reading this right? Spare tyre is 18 inch regardless the model? On the AWD model, how come there is no “4WD Lock” button on the left of the gear knob? The button is available in Boyue version. What is more regarding the voice command in the premium compared to the base model?
Just a matter of time before CX5, X Trail, CRV and Forester drop their prices.
Then Proton will panic. For example, Forester Rm120k and Proton RM120k……..habis lah Proton.
By the way, Proton should sell for RM80k and below as Proton was born to give Malaysians cheaper and affordable cars

well duh, despite being close in price range, those two cars aren’t in the same class. No competition. 1.5 NA vs 1.8 turbo, RWD vs FWD, stupid build quality vs premium, Perodua SUV has less features etc

Because that is for the budget range. LED headlights are offered for the next level trim.

We do not develop technology. We piratize and cannibalize other people’s efforts. If you can identify a pre-existing diesel, say from TaTa or Japan, then it might be incorporated and rebadged.
SUV ni bagus dari semua segi tapi saya sebagai rakyat malaysia tak berbangga sebab SUV ni dari china proton hanya copy sahaja lagipun dengan harga begitu tinggi mampukah kebanyakan rakyat malaysia beli..bagi saya kalau benda copy sepatuhnya murah bukan mahal lebih dari 100k.

Certain reason on why the price is above 100k:
1) Due to Return of Investments (ROI) made by Proton must sell on certain number of volume in order to get back the profits invested on this model
2) Lots of features even a Japanese SUV didn’t offer the certain level of specs on their model in M’sia
3) CBU model, assembled in China and imported here, 2nd batch mungkin murah dipasang di Tanjung Malim dengan facelift lebih banyak pada X70
4) Lots of work involved when converting LHD to RHD, road testing to fine tuning the model, due to diff climates and conditions between China & M’sia

I disagree with the mentality that Proton cars should be cheap and basic. That is why people dont look up to Proton. It is high time that Proton is assosciated with high end specs and luxury! This is a good start towards that direction.
No one is going to comment on the steering wheel, something the driver sees everyday? Imo the design really looks out of place. But makes sense since it’s the only thing Greely doesn’t help design.. Oh Wai..
