ASEAN NCAP – 2019 Suzuki Ertiga scores four stars; four-star rating in AOP, five-star rating in COP

The release of ASEAN New Car Assessment Programme (ASEAN NCAP) crash test results continues, this time with the second-generation Suzuki Ertiga. The MPV was tested in first-generation guise in 2016 under an earlier testing protocol, in which it received a four-star rating.

Here, the latest tests saw the Suzuki Ertiga score four stars in adult occupant protection (AOP) and five stars in child occupant protection (COP). As before, points weighting for AOP, COP and safety assistance systems are 50%, 25% and 25% respectively; the Ertiga achieved scores of 35.66 points, 18.85 points and 10.90 points in each category.

The Suzuki Ertiga fared well in its latest crash tests, said ASEAN NCAP, and the MPV is equipped with dual airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS) and seat belt reminders for front occupants as standard; electronic stability control (ESC) comes as standard or optional equipment, depending on the market it is sold in.

Frontal offset impact tests have shown results indicating adequate protection for both front occupants’ chests and for the driver’s head, with the passenger’s head faring better with a ‘good’ rating. Adult occupant protection in the Ertiga for frontal impact, side impact and head protection technology was rated at 11.42 points, 14.25 points and zero points respectively, for a total of 25.67 points.

Meanwhile, child occupant protection in the Ertiga scored 20.14 points in dynamic testing, 6.00 points for vehicle-based assessment and 10.81 points for installation, netting the Ertiga a total of 36.95 points in child occupant protection from a possible total of 49.00 points.

The COP assessment in the Ertiga comprised of a dynamic test assessment for 18-month-old and three-year-old child occupants; the restraint system used for the 18-month-old representation was the rearward-facing Maxi Cosi Milofix installed via ISOFIX and top tether, while the system used for the three-year-old representation was the forward-facing Britax Duo Plus, also installed via ISOFIX and top tether.

Thank you Proton for giving us an honest car that scores the same rating as a BMW 318i. At least you didn’t send in an unknown variant car like your competitor did, just to score that exta star but has no corelation to cars being sold whatsoever. So i tip my hat off to you, Proton. You have done well!
