Here’s an update from Chery Malaysia regarding the post about an Omoda 5 with brake issues, claimed by a customer in a video that has since gone viral on social media. It follows an acknowledgement by the company on April 7, where Chery said that it is in touch with the customer.
Chery says that the affected Omoda 5 was tested by both its technical team as well as Puspakom, and no issues were found. “Our highly skilled technical team conducted a thorough investigation on her vehicle which she claimed had faulty brakes. Additionally, the vehicle was also sent to Puspakom, whereby a comprehensive examination was conducted by the vehicle inspection company, for an impartial assessment,” Chery Malaysia said in a statement.
“At Puspakom, the 10-point inspection was performed, which includes a brake test, to evaluate efficiency, dynamic imbalance, run-out, residual force, and parking brake to ensure optimal braking performance. All inspections carried out by both Chery Auto Malaysia’s team and Puspakom have returned no adverse findings, confirming that the said vehicle is indeed safe, and the brake system is satisfactory as indicated in the Puspakom test result,” it added.
The company says that the customer has been informed of the findings and Chery has provided her with a “comprehensive report detailing the findings of all our inspections”.
“Chery Group, including Chery Auto Malaysia, prioritises safety above all else. All Chery products distributed in more than 80 countries meet the highest standards before delivery to our customers, reflecting our commitment to their safety and satisfaction,” the statement said, adding that the Omoda 5 – a global model introduced in April 2023 – has sold over 130,000 units in overseas markets as of March 2024.
To recap, the affected customer shared a video on Facebook saying that her Omoda 5 “just got out of service centre now and suddenly no brake on the highway”. In the video – which was shot in the driver’s seat as the car was on the side of a highway – the customer sounded emotional and said that her two-month old SUV has been in and out of the service centre a few times.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
While the company has done the right thing to run test and check on the car. So far, it didn’t address the claim that the two-month old car was in and out the workshop several times before this.
As I said before, this lady wanted to get the 10 years warranty for FREE by making a big fuss. Happens very often among poor people who buy new cars.
I previously told the poor to stick to china brands. My bad. Please stick to national brands instead
Is she working in Proton
Lol
Conclusion is she didn’t performed “mandi bunga” during reception of her new car. Maybe she must mandi bunga her own head and body too….
Puspakom as everyone knows is easily paid to lulus, they should use an independent safety authority that cannot be paid off like Miros… oh wait they are sponsored by P2. So the next best is to go for ANCAP
Damage control
kreta CCP is da BEST!
Tong san country is poor and tong san car can use boh? May be need to ask some politicians who said Tong san is backward before.
Correct! With a royal seal of approval
Tahu erti jadong?
See. User problem. Amoi just want to cry baby and get attention.
Sambung bayar is a thing of the past. No more hiding cars after can’t pay 2-3 months. Now they cry wolf hoping car brands and dealers buy back their cars so they won’t malu kena sue bankrap.
Otak mana nie
Tak habis2 fitnah viral. Golongan ni ada masalah otak ke? Sakit mental ke? Cuba tengok bawah kete manatau ada corak spesial bulih buat modal boikot?
tapi Cherry Australia memang ada recall Omoda 5 sebab ada masalah brake. Cherry Malaysia pulak senyap je, at least confirmkan la tak effected.
Kimak asyik komplen. Aku tak paksa kau beli cherry. Kalau tak suka, bulih pergi gerai sebelah beli durian.
After inspection got brake fluid leaking or not? Reduced braking performance or no brake at all like viral video?
I scared when I see one on the road..
Quickly siam..
And the owner received a new full paid car
Aiks….tak jadi return.
Was the car affected by the same problem on the Aussie spec model that resulted in this recall:
https://www.vehiclerecalls.gov.au/recalls/rec-005891
Well, no one knows, for now.
Anyway, since the car just came out of the workshop for a brake related job, could it be a one-off problem of incomplete air bleed. It could be one little stubborn air bubble… But if it happened, just need to pump the brake pedal few times and braking force will return gradually.
always the victim
Most likely braking systems failed to activated at that point in time.
All modern cars use electronics braking system
Women can’t drive properly…
Your mama didn’t raise you properly…
They should dare to sent the car to Honda or Perodua just to show the brake is ok. Puspakom you pay for inspection, but sendingbthe car to rival and get approval is the ultimate seal of approval.
Will you do that with your competitors in business??
Works fine for me. Was fighting with umno but now I’m bedmates with the president and dropped his 47 charges
In a lot of digital cars, it are hard to check for faulty issues, especially when the car goes into the service centre, with a laptop connected to the main hard drive of the car, all information and previous records can be reset and washed (clean all debugs). I had the same issue before with a Japanese car and they kept saying it was a fuel pump issue. They are changed twice and then only reluctant to move to check the engine and the electronic components that control it. (end up selling it after 4 years). I believe sending this car to check right now, of course, everything is fine, but comparing that to driving on the road for a short term is a different story.
Not good enough, this has involved someone’s life or death situation. Corporations only know how to do PR response in order to save their image. If China wants people to continue buying their cars, they need to take this matter very seriously.
I didn’t put a knife on their necks and force them to buy tongsan cars. Those geng baik beli or pro Palestine or whatever think china brands are good let them be. I’m just looking for more graveyards to unload my cars
Maybe another case of corporate sabotage? Get a private investigator to find out who this woman has been in contact with, etc. As always, follow the money. I’m not surprised if some established brands feel threatened by Chery’s disruption of the market and this is an attempt to damage its reputation by creating some viral BS with hopes they don’t lose more market share.
Not me. I’m not sour grape. I’m not dengki.
What disruption?
A thorough investigation shall be made to find out the real picture. Personal freedom sometimes could be abused, either intentionally or otherwise, for personal purposes, at other’s expense. Everyone should be held responsible for his/her words or actions!
Sue that minah meroyan sampai bankrap? Good idea!
I like how they didnt actually address the claim of why the brake is seemingly not working or that she went to the workshop multiple times to fix or the video showing the car still moving even when she attempted to press the brake; only that is passes the test, whatever that means.
Cause, for all we know, they didn’t actually test the car and some higher-ups only just signed the form, considering this is Malaysia.
Lets not forget we are still selling axia knowingly with the manipulated side impact tests! Anything is possible in boleh land.
She’s paid to destroy Omoda
Not that far. She just wanted to make a fuss to get FREE 10 years warranty without paying the RM 2000. A lot of poor people do this kind of things in P1 and P2 showroom everyday. Ask any salesman
since the woman is so distraught that the car’s brake is not working, i’m willing to take over her problem by buying her car for RM1k.
Don’t do it, Ben. Later your family have to spend more money with me. Your life is worth more than RM1k.
I offer 2k
My take is the women doesn’t like that the brake does ‘feels’ like her BF BMW and went to the sc complain 6-7 times thinking they can magically “fix” it for her. All else failed and she went full karen.
coincidently her dashcam is off, coincidently she just went out from sc with the form on her hand, coincidently the brake “failed” in a safe spot.
This women is full of red flag, all her FB posts and review are complains. Seems like she’s trying to be famous. what a loser
Cari makan susah, bang. Takde idea nak buat content ambik jalan senang kita buat fitnah viral. Orang kami mudah percaya, bang
Karen could put sugar too.
Well at least Chery did address the issue quickly unlike the X70 engine burned in Puspakom since Oct 2023 until today no info from both Puspakom or Proton guess that is the power of waiting & sweeping things under the carpet here.
Jangan jeles kete kami semua model hangat
There is a need for legal against all these type of attention getter in the internet whose fantasized posts viewed by simpletons believing to be true without using their judgment sense!
You got us there! We’re the said simpletons. Kita yang fitnah, yang percaya babi buta pun orang kita.
Typical characteristics of our type are spend too much time on our phones watching reels on TikTok and IG, jobless & living off parents, alwiz begging gomen for special EPF withdrawals, less intelligent & weak minded, easily influenced by penghasut politik & pendakwah palsu
Always listened to both sides of the story. There was no mentioned what was the problem leading to in and out from workshop for 2 months. Is the problem related to a functional, comfort or aesthetic issue?
Being in the industry before, we had heard or stories before including a ghost issue. There was also an old aunty case where she was dragged out of the tribunal court after the judge realised she made numerous claims before and courts took pity of her old and somewhat frail looking condition.
Bottomline is let the authorities investigate.
Aiya…car tested by Puspakom, sure no problem one! Who cares Cherry Tomato Australia says what! Duuh…Malaysia Boleh! In the meantime, to the customer hor, no need so emotional. If you don’t like the car, can always sell it! Take the loss and learn a lesson. Don’t buy car that sounds like a fruit or the action to Potong a fruit!
Will Hill-Start Assist work?
Will Autonomous Emergency Braking work?
Will Parking Brake work?
Moron Retard k/tard said she still have time t0 use her camera t0 take video to viral?
WOW Amazing!!!
The Brake sensors is right below Brake Pedal
step brake, Brake Pedal straight drop into floor, macam brake Pataah no spring responce
Holy shit, checked and found nothing wrong.
If I am the lady owner, immediately sell the car, don’t know when it will happen again, life is more precious for this shit to happen.
RVs of all chery models slashed by 70% after this news became viral
Used car Puspakom also certified
Kete sambung & total loss pun bulih approved
At least Chery responded than UMW Toyota quiet quiet until full BLOWN.
Probably high heel shoe stuck at brake….
High heel shoe? The one with certain Arabic word on the sole?
Puspa Con are great at brake check issue BCOS Malaysia driver all love brake check
Typical women driver problem
Do you have any female family members? Better not let them drive and endanger lives
Better not buying ah, later the brake will fail in the future
Better for the customer to first brought the car to inspection center herself first to check first hand and identify the problems. If there is a problem then only send to the service center showing proof of the problem. Another thing, is the computer software checked and rectified by puspakom or any other experts on this? Just my two cents opinion…
Maybe there is a conspiracy to manipulate to give Chinese EV’s a bad name. Mist report to the MACC
Hello, omoda 5 is an ICE car. My upcoming nomodal 7 runs on nuclear power
What are the chances that Chery is aware of the recall happening outside of Malaysia, they already have the fix.
Did they replace the defect before Puspakom inspection. Curious.
Time will tell if more Chery Omoda 5 owners step up and air their thoughts.
Even a dog in the street knows how Puspakom works. It’s all about bribery. Cherry hide the news that the affected car been in and out of the service center few times before this. I dont trust nasi lemak management.
puspakom hahaha whose ever got experience in puspskom they only hv old scholl equipment you believe there service???
In automotive industry, you don’t double down denying a problem. A company did it before by putting up an advertisement. They screw-up for the rest of their existence until it was bought by others. Instead, you apologize, fix the issue and move on.
I learned my lesson….(crying in a corner)
Yeah, gimme a BREAK.
Need a lemon Law
What lemon? More like durian law needed. Lol.
