Michelin invented the radial tyre fifty years ago. The first tubeless tyre was invented 100 years ago. Now the tyre has been reinvented again.

The next step in tyre technology has been unveiled. The Tweel is a simple looking hub and spoke design which eliminates the need for air pressure.

Ringgit Floated

The ringgit has been floated to a managed float against a basket of currencies which Malaysia trades with. This floating followed China’s decision to float their yuan. How will this affect our automotive market?

The float is supposed to strengthen all Asian currencies together with China, and in turn all western currencies will depreciate against our currencies collectively.

I think Proton’s exports will take a hit as they mainly export to western countries.

A Lotus Lada

I’m sure most petrolheads have heard of MTV’s Pimp My Ride show where they take old junked cars and turn them into bling bling machines. Transformation is mainly in the form of looks and frankly I think some of them are really ugly.

Now this is something in a totally different league altogether.

In this episode of Top Gear, they take an old Russian marque, a Lada and send it to Lotus. The Lada is a pretty old car with faded red paint, and a 1.5 liter Lada engine making a grand total of 35bhp.

Before: Notice even the rear steel wheels are missing it’s hubcaps.

AP Saga: The Opposition Speaks Up

Opposition party DAP leader Lim Kit Siang has insisted that MITI Minister Rafidah Aziz should disclose the full list of AP recipients since she took over the MITI portfolio in 1987.

The list released by the Prime Minister’s Office was apparently only for the 6 months this year, and not for the past 35 years as earlier mentioned.

How AP Holders Cheat The Government

The AP list has been unveiled but we are still in the dark in relation to the original context of how the AP Saga came to be. It all started when Proton accused these AP holders of importing cars and declaring prices way way below the market value.

So now we have the list, how exactly did they cheat with the value of the cars?

An anonymous sourced associated with a foreign car manufacturer tells the story.

Thai trucks to invade USA

A free trade agreement has just been signed between the United States and Thailand. This could lead to the influx of cheap Thai trucks into the US market. This would result in the lift of the 25% duty on imported trucks in the US.
