I just blogged about the Suzuki X2 concept a few days ago and now the Suzuki Grand Vitara is here in Malaysia! I saw the ad in Sunday Mail today.

The new Suzuki Grand Vitara is powered by a 2 litre J20A 4-cylinder engine making 140bhp and 183NM of torque. There is full-time four wheel drive like the Toyota RAV4.

Full-time four wheel drive means all four wheels has traction at all times, unlike SUVs like the Nissan X-Trail which run in 2WD mode most of the time and only engaging 4WD automatically when needed.

However unlike the RAV4, it has different gear ratios (4H and 4L) for the 4WD system on rough terrain for maximum pulling power. Modes can be switched through a rotary dial on the dashboard instead of the more common button system or a 2nd shift lever. The car comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Safety features – the SUV has 6 airbags. 2 front airbags for driver and passanger and the other 4 are curtain airbags for side impact.

There is also a 1.9 litre turbodiesel Grand Vitara with a Renault turbodiesel engine and a 2.7 litre V6 but it’s not available locally yet. 2-door versions are also available but they are not available in Malaysia yet, unless you go through a grey importer.
