Porsche dabbles in Touareg product planning

Porsche_Cayenne_Mountaintop.jpg

There is a tussle in the boardroom of Volkswagen AG over the Porsche Cayenne and the Volkswagen Touareg. Porsche is using it’s majority stake shareholding to influence Volkswagen product planning and marketing, especially with it’s joint projects such as the Cayenne-Touareg, two SUVs developed in such close cooperation that alot of people have called the Cayenne merely a dressed up Touareg.

Volkswagen plans to launch an all-new model change Volkswagen Touareg in late 2010, but Porsche wants to launch the Cayenne earlier during the first half of the year. “We aren’t at all pleased with a significantly longer model life for the current Touareg compared to the Cayenne. After all, the vehicles are in competition with one another,” said a high-ranking Volkswagen executive.

“If we can’t come to an agreement at the level of the working teams, the CEOs will have to hammer this out,” said an official of Porsche.

see, the problem is always like this when a parent company wanted to milk the downstreams.

why not Posh develop its own 4×4 concepts? or platform?

the same goes to Audi who develop this R8 only after it acquire Lambo.

Trying to be Cameron Diaz, but you are not. not even close.

drM, sharing platforms is normal mah.. helps reduce cost.

besides that, porsche and VW have been developing platforms together with porsche for years .. i think more than 50 years already. in fact, VW is the master of platform sharing. VW are currently sharing with SEAT, Skoda, Audi, Porsche…

littlefire85, engines are not the same.

Its model is relater to audi q7 and VW toureg..

The Cayenne is quite simply the ugliest SUV out there, uglier than the X3, X5 and Kyron to the point that I don't even lust for it :D

No matter how ugly the cayenne is compared to the touareg, it still turns heads whenever it run on the streets. Its a Porsche, and people will associate it with a supercar status although its an SUV. If a Cayenne is parked next to the Touareg, sure people will drool for the Posh. Its the stronger brand which makes it desirable and symbolize your status.

Does anyone notice a grey lowered Cayenne with 21" sports rim in Dang Wangi night spot? It looks damn cool.

no matter how much you bash the Cayenne… i know you want it. It's just that you don't have the money to buy it. LOL!

I like both SUVs actually but i prefer the Cayenne. C'mon guys, appreciate the beauty and style. Besides, we are'nt able to innovate or come out with such a technology marvel here in our very own automotive plants!

normaluser, i agree with u :) errr… care to share a pix of 'that' Cayenne' with us at paultan.org?

the cayenne and cayenne s have variable intake manifold which the touareg does not. that is why the cayenne has a bit more power and torque than the touareg of the same capacity. the cayenne is also more fuel efficient than the touareg (v6 & v8 only as vw does not hv the turbo) with around a litre less fuel used for the 100km test than the vw. also, the cayennes have the option of having the car with PDCC which the touareg does not. it also benefits from having a less plasticky interior (personal opinion only). it looks basic and is more traditional porsche in design. as standard, the cayenne also has a sport button which not only changes the suspension (including pasm) settings but the engine/gear mapping as well. the cayenne also has 2 main catalytic converters compared to 1 in the touareg which lowers its co2 emission compared to the vw. just some of the differences. there are more though. but above all, it is a Porsche and this is enough reason for many of the owners.

a bit irrelevant to post but just a thought, since Porsche kinda owns VW now, and IF VW takes over Proton which owns Lotus, would a Lotus-tuned Porsche be better than a Porsche-tuned Lotus? or vice versa? ha!

Its will be more realistic if Lotus-tuned Porsche rather than Porsche-tuned Lotus……..

    – Lotus is more renowned as a engineering consultant rather than a manufacturer. Lotus build cars to manifestate their engineering capabilites/ideas to the masses

    – Lotus had been consulting Porsche for years, but not vice versa………there is a part of Lotus in every Porsche, but none of Porsche in every Lotus.

    – Porsche dont do so much consultative work………and tuning activities

Ref this article, if VW takeover Proton, die die la all local shareholder……..no say, cuma ikut cakap Jerman laaa…………Haitttt………in the end, ini malaysia sampai bila bila pun kena jajah……….

So typical of the Germans, wanting to conquer the world. It's like WW2 all over again, minus the bombings.

It's a new world order, gentlemen. Instead of brute force, the tool this time is economy. And we are all affected by it, one way or another. Economies of scale works if there is healthy competition. But if one company owns so many other car manufacturers, then it is up to them to dictate prices.

Looks like it's heading that way.

Err… Kalau saya tanya mengapa kita sering dijajah orang lain? tanya sendiri mengapa orang kita senang diperdaya? Tamak, hidung tinggi, discriminasi menyebabkan kita hilang diri, tak baca sejarah? Apabila semua menjadi teruk orang asing masuk campur..

Jika P1 bangkrap, matilah wang kita…

    Sorry, ok go back topic..

Porsche do a lot of consultation, and a lot of their tech like VIM is collaborate with Lotus engineering.. Lotus is a R&D center more then a production center last time, before they starting to loss money and sold it to P1.. When P1 take over they starting to mass product.. Now Lotus and P1 same rugi.. haiz.. lihat their financial report last year and this year half quarter…
