Just flipped through the newspapers today and saw an advertisement announcing the impending arrival of the 2007 Mitsubishi Lancer. It advertises the car’s 155 PS (152 horsepower) DOHC MIVEC aluminium engine, RISE body, 4-wheel independant suspension, INVECS-III CVT with paddle shifters, and 18 inch alloy wheels!
Now that’s seriously huge, even the Civic 2.0 with the recent wheel update has 17 inchers. Tyre costs may be an issue to some as such large tyres are expensive, but they do look good aesthetically. There will most probably be two models and the lower spec model would probably have smaller wheels.
Anyway with this advertisement, we can confirm that we’re getting a CVT transmission with paddle shifters with the new Lancer, as well as the higher power output of the two engine tunes available, the lower rating is probably for California only. And since they’re taking up ads now, the launch must be very soon.
UPDATE: If any of you are wondering what a RISE body is, it’s basically Mitsubishi’s new body frame design technique that improves collision safety performance. RISE stands for Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution, and it was first introduced in the 1996 Mitsubishi Galant. As every car is different, how Mitsubishi implements RISE standards differs from car to car. In the 2007 Lancer, the RISE body consists of a highly rigid structure which makes use of 590Mpa high strength and 980Mpa ultra high strength steel. Torsional rigidity has been increased by 56 percent, and bending rigidity is up by 50 percent compared to the previous Lancer.

The problem is, cars are getting bigger, and wheels have to follow suite or risk making the cars looks like it run on shoping cart castors. For that its worth, the 17″ in the civic still make it look undersized.
17-18″ is the norm for most new compact to midsize cars now (the PT Cruiser GT Turbo I had a few years ago had 17″ and 215/45 tyres as standard, my buddy’s Dodge Ram truck has 20 inches as standard). However, due to our poor purchasing power, these are going to cost a bomb here.
Figure you’d need about $2300 to swap a set of 18 inch rubber….like every 1.5- 2 years the way I am driving……
Can’t wait for it though. Nicely anticipated.
sweettt!!!!! whats da price.. whats da price????
CVT, 18’… hahahaha civic 2.0 … eat your heart outtttt.. !
timing chain instead of timing belt.. that’s what we want to hear!!
price ?
hope it won’t be dat expensive.
Isn’t CVT with paddle shifters a contradiction in itself? First of all, you create some virtual gears with the CVT, then you even use a paddle to shift. Sounds to me like making something simple as complex as possible.
In anyway, I don’t like paddles. Never managed well with it, then I would prefer a normal ‘stick’ shifter…
I think with the paddle shifter is more exciting….
seem like driving F1…
Good… Sporty…
but izzit it perfomance will satisfy our feel?
the race for the best begin now……..
Thumbs up for the paddle shifter and 18″ wheels, but gotta agree that those large wheels and tyres are expensive in Malaysia. If want some other rare and cool looking wheels from BBS, Konig or Racing Hart, must order from other countries……banyak susah……
CVT (seemless gear change, won’t feel the gear change) with paddle shifter is gud,…would be something like the current honda city, CVT gearbox wt 7 speed manual steering shifter (for those who want to be a F1 heroes…)…if u are too lazy to bother changing gear yrself just simply put in in D or S for more spirited drive…
i think lancer pick up will same as civic, because of it 18″ rim.
after the car run smooth, lancer speed up will fully win civic.
i think mitsubishi malaysia will set the price lower than civic abit…
mayb RM120k-RM125k… what u all think???
because exist mitsubishi model, TRITON price also lower than toyota HILUX.
I bought 17′ Silverstone Evol8 bout 200/pc (215/45/R17). Of course in klang. I think it a bargain bcoz 16′ tyre is demn expensive, i mean ridiculous price. I think 18′ tyre is around 230-250 which i think reasonable…same Silverstone Evol8. And im very confident pushing it up to the limit using this tires…not bad larr. And avoid commit suicide with Sime Astar
Izit possible mitsu give us lightweight set of 18′ rims?
nice ad, hopefully will get to test drive it soon:D
i saw today this car, not sure which model, but its similar to EVO X … see here http://www.e-kereta.com/forum/index.php?topic=451
So, we are confirmed getting a CVT transmission and also new all aluminium MIVEC engine, woo, if the price is right, Civic 2.0 may lose the competition, but hard to tell…
Talking about ads, i thought i saw an ad about Honda Type R .. Hm…
with the 18″ wheels and more sporty oriented outlook to it, the “uncles” will still buy civic/corolla…
so-called boy racers will love it tho!
This is good shit! Just cant wait to test drive. The 18″ alloys are way cool! MIVEC technology with alluminium block engine – wah wah wah! What more can you ask for? Bye Bye Civic 2.0 – I have confident that you are going to smell my smoke.
Woah – new lancer 2.0 is approaching! Wah paddle shifters, aluminum block, 155ps MIVEC! Definitely give Civic 2.0 a run for it’s money. Can’t wait to test drive this Fantastic Sports Machine…

18 inch for the everyday Joe that wants to drive to work ? How much is rubber going to cost you eeach time your going to change tyres.
I dunno never had a good perception of the lancer ever since uni days. This totally leaves the Evo out of any criticism. As all the goodness and feel has been concerntrated squarely on that car.
