Supercar sculpture created from thousands of car parts

This bizarre alien-like sculpture is an amalgamation of parts taken from hundreds of different cars and was created by Irish company RoboSteel, which is in the business of creating sculptures from recycled steel. They call this a “concept supercar”, but it isn’t a car at all, just artwork.

To create the sculpture, thousands of car parts from hundreds of different cars will be welded together, the sharp edges will be smoothed and polished and then the completed car will be coated with several layers of lacquer to protect it from the elements. The end results weighs over 500kg, and stands at over 1 meter tall.

Apparently the design was inspired by the complex designs and structures of south Indian temples and the Kirtimukha sculptures that are positioned at the entrance to these temples. THe concept car will debut at Earls Court, London, between 4 and 7 November 2010 and at the NEC, Birmingham between 11 and 14 November 2010. The car will then be auctioned to raise money for charity.
