German testing specialist TUV SUD has opened a new automotive testing laboratory in Thailand. TUV SUD PSB (Thailand) invested 20 million baht in the 400-square-metre lab located in Thailand Science Park in Pathum Thani province. The facility will focus on international-standard testing of auto components including tyres and wheels.
“We expect revenue growth for our automotive business, which is a third of our total business, to grow by double digits this year. Thailand is a very big market for us. There are lots of original equipment manufacturers here and they are more or less trying to look for local suppliers,” said general manager Boey Kok Fai.
TUV SUD has 168 labs worldwide, of which 10% are auto-related. The Munich based company has been in Thailand for 11 years. The country is a major regional auto hub, and a recent study by Frost & Sullivan says that auto companies are recognising Thailand’s suitability as an R&D hub to manufacture components. The market may see an annual growth rate of 6.3% to reach US$450 million in 2017.
