Thai monthly vehicle exports top 100k for the first time

mmc thai factory

Earlier this week, we read that Thai car production hit the highest point (256,581 units in November) since it began there in 1961, and it turns out that last month also saw monthly vehicle exports exceed the 100,000-unit mark for the first time since the Kingdom began shipping cars out in 1988.

Vehicle exports hit a record 100,225 units worth 46.6 billion baht last month, up by 1,502% year-on-year, according to the Federation of Thai Industries’ automotive industry club. The huge y-o-y jump is of course due to last year’s big flood which halted production, but it’s still a sign that not only is business back on track, it’s booming.

Year-to-date exports reached 940,374 units worth 449 billion baht, up by 34.2% year-on-year in volume and 37.7% in value.

The federation’s spokesman said the Thai auto industry is set to produce 214,988 vehicles this month, bringing the 2012 total to 2.45 million, a record high for the country. It’s not just exports that are fuelling the demand – year-to-date domestic sales rose by 74.5% year-on-year to 1.29 million vehicles.

In contrast to last year’s water woes, it’s happy days for the Detroit of the East. So, no pressure then, for the people charged with forming our National Automotive Policy (NAP) review!

err, maybe we already achieve our maximum sales potential? 28 million ppl, more than 10 million cars on the road (some in used car court of course) and more than half million new cars registered each year.

its hard to do more, isnt it?

unless, we have 50 million population. or we practise compulsory car scrapping programme, at least 10 yrs max in cities and 25 yrs max at other places.

74.5% rise in domestic sales? Wow! Our northern neighbours must be getting richer. Even Indon maids also don’t want to come in anymore becoz they themselves are getting more prosperous (ok since this is motoring forum, they also record higher vehicle sales). Do we need a fresh outlook in the country’s stewardship? Gomen just start with NAP lah, prove to us all is not lost. Even the current education system cause lots of worry for our children already

Potong, maybe millions of jobs will be avalaible, as all the world car manufactuers set up shop in Malaysia..and we dont even know the monthly sales figure now as MyCC claimed its illegal to publish the sales figures…thats the problem when incompetent people appointed

JAKARTA, Dec 26 – The Indonesian government will put in place a regulation on the production of low-cost green cars (LCGC) after an automotive manufacturer here invested heavily on green cars,
“The ministry of finance will ensure that the LCGC regulation is put in place,” said Anshari Bukhari, Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry on Tuesday, adding that the ministry is keen on implementing the regulation by the end of this year.
“It also reflects investors trust in the government.”
He said the Toyota Group has increased its production capacity.

MITI, with former PM son as Deputy Minister is to make sure they implemented NAP forever as far as they are in office ……
