Mazda VX-1 – Indonesian rebadge of the Suzuki Ertiga

To get meaningful volume in Indonesia, one must have an affordable seven-seat MPV to sell, a car like the Toyota Avanza. If you don’t have it, rebadge it, and that’s what Mazda has done with this upcoming Mazda VX-1, which is based on the Suzuki Ertiga MPV.

Taken from Indonesian website detikOto, there’s not much info accompanying these pics, other than the fact that this “MPV kelas bawah” (their words, not ours) is new ground for Mazda (other MPVs in the stable include the Biante and Mazda 8) and that it will be offered with manual transmission. It remains to be seen if the VX-1 will use Suzuki’s 1.4 litre K-series engine or Mazda’s own powerplant.

First launched in India early last year, the Ertiga sits on a Suzuki SX4 platform stretched to have a long 2,740 mm wheelbase. It’s available with the abovementioned 1.4 petrol or a 1.3 litre Fiat turbodiesel with 88 hp/200 Nm. Click here for a full gallery of the Suzuki Ertiga.
