A Malaysian team comprising five Shell Helix customers and a journalist joined 190 guests from 23 countries at the recent Shell Helix Driven to Extremes World Championship in South Africa.
Contest winners Chew Yeah Fah, Ching Chi Yee, Ho Chee Kin, Ho Yung Shih and Sarfarizal Md Saad, together with media member Gan Yong Li, went through a series of driving and expedition challenges created to give guests a taste of the tasks and obstacles faced by the professional drivers and celebs in the Shell Helix Driven to Extremes TV series.
Guests competed in two days of driving challenges and expedition tasks designed to assess their ability across sand dunes and mountain tracks, receiving tuition from professional instructors. Driver concentration and awareness were put to the test in precision and finesse driving challenges, as was the ability to work as a team in challenges such as bridge building and water retrieval. Team Germany emerged overall champions.
The African adventure was not just limited to activities behind the wheel, as guests were treated to five-star accommodation, exclusive dinners, traditional South African entertainment and the opportunity to explore the iconic sights of the Cape and the spectacular Table Mountain.
The Shell Helix “Can You Handle the Extreme?” contest, held from March to May 2013, was open to customers who purchased Shell Helix lubricants.
