The China-specific Chevrolet Malibu is due for a facelift anytime soon and from the looks of these leaked shots from auto.ifeng.com, that time could come sooner rather than later. Unlike the rest of the world, this is a completely different Malibu and is, therefore, not the one that Chevrolet has been teasing recently.
With that cleared, the Chevrolet Malibu destined for the Chinese market now sports a redesigned front fascia that apes the China-market Chevrolet Cruze, itself having been introduced last year in Beijing. Compared to the outgoing variant, the new car boasts a “Dual Port” front grille flanked by slimmer head lamps.
In profile, new twin, five-spoke wheels are featured while the rear end sees a massive revamp courtesy of the restyled rear lamp housings. As one can see from the photos, the segmented layout found on the current variant has been replaced by a more fluid, one-piece housing.
As is the case with most facelifts, the new version is expected to soldier on with the same three engine options currently employed in the outgoing Chevrolet Malibu. A 1.6 litre turbocharged engine producing 181 hp/235 Nm of torque kicks things off while the naturally-aspirated 2.0 litre Ecotec mill produces 151 hp and 190 Nm of torque. Topping the range is a 2.4 litre SIDI engine with 183 hp and 240 Nm of torque.
