MRT Corp lodges police report over ‘crack’ allegations

MRT guideway netting

You may remember that last Friday, social media users shared photos of an alleged crack on an MRT guideway over a section of Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong (LDP) – which MRT Corp denied, saying that it was the joining of netting. Now it seems the committee is looking to take action against those who propagated the images, by lodging a police report on the matter.

Director of strategic communications and public relations Mahmood Abdul Razak was the one who made the report – he said that the company decided to make the move because it took the allegations seriously, adding that it will also lodge a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

“There were posts which talked about the supposed ‘crack.’ But what was of greater concern were posts from people claiming to be experienced engineers who said the guideway was going to collapse at any time and urged people to stay away from the LDP,” he said.

Mahmood also mentioned that these supposedly experienced engineers created the impression that they were part of the Klang Valley MRT project, adding that “this is causing a lot of panic among road users.”

He said that MRT Corp understood the public’s concern and investigated the claims immediately. “We immediately issued a media release explaining that the ‘crack’ was an optical illusion and was actually a seam line of the netting which was covering the guideway. The media release was issued on the evening of July 23 immediately after the picture of the supposed “crack” became viral,” he said.

Additionally, Mahmood reiterated what MRT Corp stated on Friday, saying that the guideway structure over the LDP was sound and had absolutely no risk of collapsing. He also urged motorists not to be “unduly worried” while driving under the guideway, adding that the allegations had no truth.

“The netting covering certain sections of the guideway was put there because stressing work is being carried out for the guideway,” he said. “This work may result in some small pieces of material falling. The netting is to prevent such material from landing on vehices and road users below. These works are normal works for the construction of the MRT guideway.”

Ah…Facebook. Its a place where ‘engineers’, ‘lawyers’, ‘doctors’, ‘sportsmen’, judges and everything you can think of come together to discuss and decide everything under sun.

So what’s new in today’s news?

Thanks to Pakatan Rakyat and their continuous cybertrooper psy-ops campaigns, the Malaysian public has been severely dumbed-down to the point of being brainless and devoid of critical thinking.

Next: Lim Guan Eng or Tony Pua are going to say that Malaysia will have a volcanic eruption due to BN’s cronies and corruption, and people will believe it no matter how illogical it sounds.

Compared to many fakes, photo-shopped, unsubstantiated news and photos, I think this one might be just an innocent mistake by the photographer with wild imaginations.

    • Oh yes. When its a mistake by the photographer to assume and post the pic on the net and spread the “news” instead of seeking confirmation from MRT directly, oh yes its a innocent mistake, just his imagination. No need to saman him, bring him to court, ban him.

Oh yes. MRT image did not suffer, the rakyat din bash the Gov for no good reason even when its not related to them. Malaysia image did not suffer at all.

Oh yes, Malaysians who believed SR & WSJ certainly wouldnt believe the same kinda “news” with MRT now would they? Unsubstantiated social media reporting with hyped up “facts”.

      Oh yes, indeed.

This should serve as a lesson to other culprit not to spread false information/rumors on the social media. Good Job MRT Corp!

  • Bagus, those who are trying to act “smart” and seem like they know everything that goes on in construction line will kena. Malaysian naivety on the Internet knows no bounds and some people are making a meal out of it. Time for these kind of people to go back hiding in their caves

  • There’s 2 bigger questions.
    1. Why do they need to paint the whole stretch of the MRT when we’ve never painted all our LRT structures and elevated highways?
    2. Why do they install the steel/aluminium facade thing all along the track when LRT has no such features?
Are these not a waste of taxpayers money? With the steel thing covering the tracks, passengers will not even be able to enjoy the view while travelling. Sigh….

    • Maybe you should read up a bit. MRT Corp has announced before what those “steel/aluminium facade” are. They’re sound barriers, to mitigate noise away from nearby residential units. They’re not a waste of funds.
The nature of cement is they’re never uniform, and paint overcomes that.
