Road widening, U-turn lanes completed in Taman Desa

PJ Traffic Jam

The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has widened Jalan Desa Bakti and Jalan Desa Utama in Taman Desa, with the addition of U-turn lanes along the roads to ease traffic congestion, Bernama reports.

“This project started last April and it is now 100% finished and residents have started to use it on September 6. We always want the residents to get the best infrastructure from the government,” Federal Territories Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mogan told reporters after visiting the location earlier this week. He added that the project cost RM800,000.

According to DBKL, the congestion was caused by vehicles making the right turn into SMK Desa Perdana at Jalan Desa Utama, and also those making a U-turn; all of them coming from the Salak Highway.

Besides the above, the city council also added a pedestrian walkway, street lights, drainage system reconstruction and grass on the road shoulder and divider in that area.

The stakeholders are happy. Taman Desa Residents Association chairman William Chan expressed relief over the completion of the project and thanked the government, while SK Taman Desa headmaster Mazlan Bahari said traffic flow in the area had improved tremendously, especially during peak hours.

That’s just a random photo of a traffic jam at Jaya 33. What has it to do with the Taman Desa news?

The picture is not matching with the article. People being people, will “read” the picture first, then the article.

Anyways, used to spend a lot of time at Tmn Desa. Didn’t realise it was that bad then. Some of those using the road were probably trying to bypass some traffic at Old Klang Rd, so maybe adding to the traffic. But still nothing as bad as the crawl on Old Klang Rd during rush hour.

  • Purpose for the expanded roads & smoother U-turn. Apart from the massive traffic diversion from the East-West Expressway turning to Jln Desa Bakti as alternative way to Old Kelang Road, there are 5 schools & a mosque located next to the junction of Desa Bakti & Desa Utama. The original roads designed for residential traffic flow. By year end a condominium project of 3 towering blocks more than 30 storey & 2 office towers under construction will all add thousands of vehicles to this road junction. DBKL, thank you for addressing the problem that is likely to get heavier.
