2016 Bentley Bentayga has a Breitling self-winding Tourbillon clock – 18k gold case and eight diamonds

When it comes to 2016 Bentley Bentayga, billed as the world’s “most powerful and fastest SUV ever,” the Crewe-based company has certainly created one of its most exceptional rides ever with 600 hp on tap and a top speed of 310 km/h.

However, there is a certain optional item for this vehicle that begs further examination. Breitling has partnered with Bentley’s in-house custom coach workshop, Mulliner, to make a very unusual clock for its dashboard.

The “Mulliner Tourbillon” is a self-winding clock, and its heart is a one-minute flying tourbillon in a titanium cage, that beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (vph). It has a fifty hour power reserve too. It comes in a solid 18k gold case, with white or rose gold offered as options, and the dial is available in either white or ebony-black mother of pearl. The indexes are decorated with eight diamonds too. With a cut-out in the rotor, and being back-lit, it will be quite something to admire in the dark.

Apparently, even the illuminated halo on the demo button and the spotlight that shines on the bowl that the clock sits in is all configured to match the car’s mood lighting and brightness control. Well, all you have to do to make sure it is automatically wound periodically; is to drive it as much as possible.

We shudder to even think of the price of this option, given how much a timepiece of this ‘spec’ and material would cost in the form of a wristwatch. It could very well be more than half the price of the actual Bentayga.

I like & appreciate mechanical watches for their precision without using any electronics. But i’m still trying to understand the logic behind doing this in a car.

They’ve put a mechanical/automatic watch in a car? Well, if you park the car for more than 50 hours (since it says reserve is 50 hours), the clock will stop moving right. So after that, when you go back into the car, you will need to correct the time. That might be a bit troublesome for the driver. I do hope the satnav’s time is not linked to the mechanical clock.

Anyone noticed that the brand name of “Breitling” was spelled wrongly in the title?

  • Pretentious products to interest idiots with too much money and too few responsibilities and even less class. And we have people who question why billions are spent on space exploration rather than solving the world’s urgent problems. Luckily we have Bill and Melinda Gates who actually know how to use their wealth.
