“Mat Rempits” jailed, fined RM5,000 for illegal wheelies

2015-mat-rempit-5-e1444095620332a

Four “daredevil” motorcyclists, otherwise known as Mat Rempits, have been sentenced to a minimum of two days in jail and fined RM5,000 for their dangerous acts while riding. The four riders were ordered to serve their time behind bars immediately by the Traffic Magistrate’s Court, Bernama reports.

Pleading guilty to the charges, all four men were also served with an RM5,000 fine, and had their licenses revoked, with no chance of re-applying for new ones over the next two years. It was also reported that should the riders not be able to pay the fines, an additional jail term of five months would be enforced upon them.

They were charged under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which states that the prosecuted shall serve a jail term up to five years, a minimum fine of RM5,000, or both upon conviction.

The four riders involved were taken in under an Ops Samseng Jalan Raya operation by the police at three different locations: Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Raja Laut and at the Jalan Tun Perak intersection. They were brought in for performing dangerous stunts like “wheelies” on public roads between 9 pm and 1:30 am, on Sunday.

  • i think the best way to teach rempit
ask them to clean the road after the acccident
ask them ‘kutip’ all the flesh blood

This is the ugly truth with Malays in Malaysia. Encourage each other to have more and more and more kids. Maybe up to 25 years of age, this kids become useless rempits but only at the age of 30 they become real useful men. Then all the 25 years worth of wrongdoings are forgiven……..

Only 4? C’mon there’s still thousands of them. Try going to the LDP toll which leads to Putra Heights at 1-4am almost every Friday and/or Saturday night and you’ll see a horde of them.

It is actually illegal for the police to confiscate keys and force motorcyclists to push their bikes to a police station without an arrest.

    • So would you prefer to give mat rempits free reign and race all over the place and endanger other fellow road users? Not to mention is it legal for them to have extremely loud exhaust and become a nuisance with their noise pollution well past midnight?
Mat rempit blatantly disregards any of the road laws so they should be punished and pushing their bikes for a few km is just light punishment.

Wouldn’t it be better to try to accommodate these buffoons than jailing them? Could the Police close off a street for them once a week? Could a low-cost track be built close to KL? They are just young men blowing off steam.

Serving and fining them still defeats the purpose. They’ll get back on the roads and continue to do their illegal racing. Either educate them to become a civilized citizen or confiscate their driving permits, motorcycles. And for the police, continue doing roundings around the specific area especially Friday nights, weekend, the night before cuti. Make good use of their new patrol car Proton Preve.

Two days in jail is like a holiday to them with free food & drinks paid by our tax money. The fine of $5K, parents will pay, so no problem right. These parasites should be given the ROTAN too; six strokes. Next time they want to get on their bikes; their buttocks will remind them to behave. No problem if they want to kill themselves doing their stunts; but endangering / threatening & even robbing the innocents cannot be tolerated.

Though I’m pleased that some of these rempits are being punished. I have a feeling 2 days worth of jail time and the RM 5K fine won’t have a lasting effect on these low lifes and that they’ll be back on the streets soon enough.

The amount of danger they cause on the streets should warrant a more severe punishment. If that’s not possible than proper and consistent policing and enforcement should be employed by the PDRM. We all know their racing haunts and hotspots, and so to the PDRM, so they need to face and tackle this problem head on before it gets worse..

  • Two nights ago, there was a police roadblock on Persiaran Bukit Kiara near Sri Hartamas area. Police were stopping cars driving maybe around 90-100km/h (admittedly over the 80 km/h speed limit but not in any way life-threatening to other road users). We all know why the police are there (because this is a more ‘profitable’ route).

Instead of this, traffic police should spend more of their time and resources to catch the real menace, which is the super dangerous (both to themselves and other road users) rempits who wheelie, ‘superman’ riding, illegal street racing, etc, etc unfortunately less ‘profitable’.

Such is the sad state of affairs. Priorities are misplaced.
