The train ride between KL Sentral and KLIA/KLIA2 is set to cost more come January 1. Express Rail Link (ERL), the operator of the rail service, has announced that its fares will be increased for the first time since it began operations 14 years ago.
From January 1 next year, the fare for a one-way trip on the KLIA Express will be RM55, an increase of RM20 from the current fare. The revision was approved by the government through the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) in accordance with Section 120 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010.
Despite the hike, ERL CEO Noormah Mohd Noor said the new fare is still a discounted rate, as ERL has been authorised to revise the fare to RM64 based on the terms of the concession agreement. The company added that KLIA Ekspres still offers the lowest airport rail transfer fare in the world.
“We structured our new fares with our customers in mind. We recognise that the rising cost of living is a challenge, and are working on ways to make more fare options available to our passengers,” she said in a press statement regarding the fare increase.
“We will continue to find ways to reduce the impact without compromising our service and safety standards, and give passengers new options to reduce their costs when they travel. We are working with our partners such as MasterCard to offer attractive discounts. For example, passengers travelling to the airport on KLIA Ekspres can pay as low as RM40 per trip, which is only RM5 more than the old fare of RM35,” she added.
Discounts of up to 20% will be available when using certain credit cards, and ERL is in discussion to expand the list. Passengers are also encouraged to buy their tickets online through the mobile app and from ERL’s kiosks, enjoying 10% off the fare by doing so.
Meanwhile, Touch ‘n Go card users will save 10% during the promotion period, and travellers can also save RM10 by purchasing return tickets between KL Sentral and the airport.
As for daily commuters on the KLIA Transit, a new 44-trip Monthly TravelCard will be offered to ensure that they can commute to work daily, while keeping the increase to a minimum. TravelCard users will enjoy discounts of 17% – 83%, with an average discount of 45%. Senior citizens and disabled persons will continue to receive discounts of 30% on one-way fares on the KLIA Transit.
The concessionaire added that by May next year, six new trains will be progressively delivered, which will increase ERL’s capacity by 50%.
that’s a very steep increase in my opinion. everything is on the rise these days and things aren’t getting any rosy anytime soon. hope miracle happens to our beloved land ASAP!
There won’t be any miracle as long as the current crop of joker are running the country.
Terima kasih sumbangan and undi kalian
Why not charging 100?
Red dignity where are them now?? Hiding?? Dont talk about land and Now normal Rakyat can’t ever survive in daliy life expenses !!! “Padan muka” for supporting BN and cronies !!!
Why is toll and transport getting higher and higher? Very simple. It is because of Songlapping.
One man can songlap RM2.6 billion is just one news we know. What about the other times he songlap that we don’t know about? I think it runs to hundreds of billions.
Taib songlap US$20 billion (RM84 billion) also nothing happen to him. Infact he was rewarded for his songlap and made Governor and given a Tunship.
What about the songlaps by the other Menteri and Government officials?
It all runs to hundreds of billions per annum the Songlap.
This is why we get higher tolls every year and transport going hgher and higher. Our guardians are more interested in Songlap than fighting for the rakyat to get lower tolls and lower transport charges.
After added RM20 to original fare price of RM35, and give 10% discount…? wow..
Miracles do happen almost everyday in Malaysia
They really treat Malaysian as sohai. With that kind of price, it is better take taxi with 2 or more passenger.
And when it comes to taxi, it is even better to take Uber and GrabCar.
Rest be assured, Crony Taxi Service From KLIA will increase in due course.
Thank You Songlap Govt. We are closer to high cost nation but 90% poor rakyat.
That is a very good news for us!
MoT will say “Please just walk/jog to KL Sentral, good for your health”. Ministers’ brains in Malaysia is a dustbin that store rubbishes.
Crony monopoly business maa.
To make money…not to serve country, understand!
i dont mind using my grand livinna to ferry 4 pasenggers frm kl to klia with very competitive price rm100 per way. anybody interested.
Stupid to have kept it so low all these years then BOOM increase at once. Of course those RBAs will jump on this. They should have let them increase RM1 every year, then no one will actually notice. Bodoh Gov, should have done it like SG
Even their cybertrooper felt that BN is bodoh. That’s a first.
Why not? Unlike PR cybertroopers, we dun think everything dun by our team is super duper good. Thats why we gip constructive criticisms and dun just bash blindly.
Hahah who got ‘early retirement due to illness’ and made you spokesperson?
lawak besar.. you do realize that ERL concession is owned by YTL right?
Its a jv between ytl, tabung haji and trisilco equity. They have a 30-year concession given by the govt.
From the fares table, there is a cheaper way, from Sentral to Salak Tinggi – RM18.30, then from Salak Tinggi to KLIA – RM4.90, total RM23.20 only
GST, toll, bus fares, erl, tnb….what next our mr pm….bersyukurlah negara kita aman
Everyone want to have their big cut, by modelling Jib political play, without considering the impact of the communities well being.
Thanks for all the voters.
This is what you vote for.
Rm55 only so cheap. Less than GBP10. It means we are fast becoming a high income nation. Tourists will say wahhh prices similar to London, this means Malaysians are very rich. Smart move.
Tak pe, KFC masih penuh, orang masih queue iphone, beli merc, beli honda, kenaikan ERL tidak membebankan rakyat.
it’s time to collect back BR1M money from rakyat. as easy as that.
menteri kata, tak nak bayar harga ERL, jangan naik kapal terbang…. naik tongkang lah….
All passengers of KLIA have been paying for ERL whether they use it or not ,it just that it is hidden in the airport charges.Of course, Francis Yeoh of YTL will boast this is the cheapest fare in the world but purposely omitted the hidden charges to make his bluff sounded more convincing.
My guess is that MAHB do not impose the hidden fees anymore in the airtickets from 1Jan 2016 onwards and thus ERL has to collect the “hidden fees” from those who uses ERL only and not all KLIA passengers. They could be collecting a lower hidden fees from all passengers in the past, but now with only passengers using ERL, thus the increase is substantial. End of the day, ERL may just get about the same revenue as before, but those not using ERL dont have to pay the hidden fees anymore. Lets see if the airport charges reduces from 1 Jan 2016 onwards in your air tickets’ prices.
I thought RM35 is already expensive for KL Sentral to KLIA, now they plan to increase to RM55! Taking ETS from KL to Ipoh is only RM25 (silver class). And sometimes you can take local flight from KL at less than RM55 if book early. Maybe they only target rich tourist.
gila sungguh 55 sekali jalan.ok takpa kita naik klia transit dari stesen TBS ke klia so murah skit. masih guna klia tren jugak… be smart bro
