The eighth instalment of the long-running Fast & Furious franchise has finally received its official name, and a confirmation of its launch date. According to a posting by Vin Diesel, the movie will be titled Fast 8, and is set to hit theatres on April 14, 2017.

No details on the movie’s plot or characters have been released so far, although IMDB has stated that many familiar faces like Dwayne Johnson (The Rock), Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Jason Statham and Vin Diesel (obviously) will star in the film. Judging by the Instagram posting, it appears the film looks to be set primarily in New York.

The film will be directed by Felix Gary Gray, who’s portfolio includes Straight Outta Compton and 2003’s The Italian Job. Fast 8 will certainly have a lot of live up to, considering the franchise’s previous outing, Furious 7, became the sixth highest grossing movie worldwide.

However, Fast 8 will not be the final movie, as the upcoming movie will be part of one last trilogy. Therefore, expect the franchise to grow beyond just eight full-length feature films, alongside two short films as time goes by. Nonetheless, this marks the next Fast & Furious movie without the late Paul Walker (sans Tokyo Drift), who passed away in a fatal road accident in 2013.
