Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of Honda USA, revealed that all of the company’s turbocharged Civic models – Coupe, Sedan and Hatchback – will be available with a six-speed manual starting this fall. Currently, a CVT is the only option for all markets. “We said this would be our sportiest Civic ever and we meant it!” Conrad exclaimed.
The announcement was made during a recent press conference at the 2016 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), where the Civic Hatchback Prototype is displayed. The preview for the tenth-generation Civic Hatchback first appeared at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, and has been revealed in full thanks to patent images on the internet.
Conrad also disclosed that the five-door hatchback will be powered by Honda’s first-ever 1.5 litre turbocharged EarthDreams four-cylinder engine with 174 hp on tap. As per the earlier statement, a six-speed manual transmission and CVT will be mated to the engine. For now, no official word on the car’s arrival but expect it to come in 2017.
To add to the good news, Conrad also revealed that the American-market Civic line-up will include high-performance Si variants on top of the Hatchback. Additionally, a new Civic Type R based on this hatchback style is also on the cards. Exciting!
The new Civic Hatchback is built on the tenth-gen Sedan’s platform, and is destined for markets like Europe and Australia. Production of the model is set to be handled by Honda of the UK Manufacturing (HUM), and will be exported to global markets including the United States.
The car will also be produced in Thailand for export to Australia, which does open up the possibility of a Malaysian introduction after the launch debut of the Civic Sedan. For now, nothing is set in stone, but how much would you want a Civic Hatchback here? With a 1.5 litre turbo? And a six-speed manual? The power of dreams.

Good move, hope Honda Malaysia will bring the 6MT here
i still prefer Focus, hehe
You may choose as you like.
Honda Malaysia very SLOW LOL. Honda fans in thailand are enjoying themselves with fully equipped Hondas compared to us pityful Malaysians and up to date most of the time. Maybe Honda Malaysia has been poisoned by DRB-Hicom’s dark powers.
manual better than cvt!! smart move honda!!
Both are good cars but since the Civic is the newer of the two i choose it over the Focus
Assembled in PAGOH? HAhahahahahahaha
