Two revealing sketches of the new Datsun redi-GO have been released just ahead of the compact model’s global debut in India. Set to take centre stage in New Delhi come April 14, the redi-GO will become the second production model based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s new CMF-A architecture – the first being the Renault Kwid.
Borrowing several mechanical components from the Kwid, the new sketch shows that the redi-GO does wear its very own unique exterior design – one that closely reflects the redi-GO Concept that was unveiled in Delhi two years ago. Save for a few minor tweaks, the front grille, headlamps, tail lights, bumpers and over silhouette closely resemble what we saw on the concept.
According to IndianAutosBlog, the Datsun redi-GO will be positioned and priced lower than the Renault Kwid in India – the Kwid starts from INR256,968 (RM15k). For power, the publication claims that the redi-GO will rely on the Kwid’s 53 hp/74 Nm 800 cc SCe three-cylinder petrol engine and its five-speed manual transmission.
Additionally, it is said that the Kwid’s 1.0 litre petrol mill and automated manual transmission (AMT) will eventually be carried over to the redi-GO. Several reports also suggest that a new 1.0 litre three-cylinder diesel engine is currently in development and will make its debut in the redi-GO at a later stage.
