Johor-Singapore VEP system to start from June 2016

It appears the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) system between Johor and Singapore is expected to begin operating from June 1, 2016, according a report by the New Straits Times. This is in line with the new timeframe for its implementation by the Johor state government in March.

During a recent Dewan Negara meeting, Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi said the system would see a RM20 charge per entry for each foreign vehicle, with phase one involving implementation of the system at the Johor-Singapore border.

“Installation of the facilities is currently being done at the Sultan Iskandar and the Sultan Abu Bakar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complexes. The system will serve as a medium to record details of vehicle owners from Singapore and a medium to monitor overstaying of Singaporeans here as well as to curb cloning of vehicles.

“The system will also serve as an enforcement tool to prevent Singaporeans who have yet to settle traffic fines issued here from leaving the country,” he said. The VEP system was supposed to be implemented in August last year, but was then postponed to October.

Erm…Mr. Minister, are you sure 1st June??? I still see a lot of cables tangling and empty poles at both checkpoints, the installation progress is extremely slow.

    • Do you think those who afford to own Ferrari will care about RM20? Even average Singaporean don’t care to spend extra RM20 driving into Malaysia.

    • RM20 is about SGD6.80, ok lah can consider very affordable. There’s Mcdonald’s extra value meals that cost upwards of SGD7 here.

Typical!! Announcement will be made 2 weeks before that it will be implemented and everyone will be scrambling to register their cars, then complete breakdown of VEP system due to overcapacity, and delay again. Why can’t there be some planning for once rather than rushing to do everything all the time?
