BMW G310R preview 1

While many riders in Malaysia are awaiting the official announcement of BMW Motorrad’s entry-level G310 R, Motorrad Australia has announced the official sales price down under at AUD5,790 (RM17,431). This is reflective of BMW Australia’s positioning of the G310 R as a learner bike in its highly competitive market.

This compares against the 2016 BMW Motorrad G310 R’s asking price of 4,290 pounds sterling (RM22,122) in the UK, 5,350 Swiss francs (RM21,688) for Switzerland, and 4,750 euros (RM20,913) in Germany. No word has been forthcoming from BMW Motorrad Malaysia about what the pricing for the G310 R is likely to be for the Malaysian market.

For comparison, the BMW Motorrad RnineT retails for AUD21,250 (RM63,974) in Australia, while it is priced at RM99,888 in the Malaysian market. If the G310 R were to be priced in the same manner in Malaysia, it should fall under the RM30,000 mark when it’s launched here.

Rivals to the 2016 BMW Motorrad G310R in Malaysia include the KTM 250 Duke at RM21,021, the Benelli TnT300 at RM20,129 and the Kawasaki Z250SL at RM15,389. As BMW Motorrad’s first small-displacement motorcycle in nearly 60 years, the G310 R comes with a 313 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that has a claimed 34 hp and 28 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm.

Weighing in at 158 kg, and with ABS as standard, the G310R is designed by BMW to be marketed worldwide as its offering for the entry-level, learner-bike segment. Would you be interested, if it’s priced around the RM30,000 mark?
