PLUS offers 20% off tolls for Deepavali, releases TTA

Those heading home for Deepavali will be pleased to know that PLUS is offering a 20% toll rebate tomorrow for users paying tolls electronically on the North-South Expressway (NSE), Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE), North-South Expressway Central Link (ELITE) and the Malaysia-Singapore Second Crossing (Linkedua).

The rebate is applicable for Class 1 users (light vehicles with two axles except taxis) paying via PLUSMiles cards, Touch ‘n Go cards or SmartTAGs and travel more than 100 km on PLUS highways. It will be applied throughout the day, with no restrictions on the time of day. Aside from being in conjunction with the celebrations, the rebate also encourages users to switch to electronic payment.

However, users will still have to pay the full amount on October 29 itself – the rebate is instead redeemable when reloading their cards at all PLUS customer service centres from November 15 to February 14. Take note that the toll rebate will not apply at the Tanjung Kupang, Bukit Kayu Hitam, Bangunan Sultan Iskandar and Penang Bridge toll plazas.

The concessionaire has also released a travel time advisory (TTA), which advises those travelling from Klang Valley to Perlis and Kedah to enter the NSE between 6:00 am and 10:00 am, and those headed to Penang and Perak to proceed between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. This is said to prevent both groups of traffic from converging. The same concept applies for travellers heading down south.

Based on previous festive seasons, PLUS expects the traffic on the NSE to increase by 7% to 1.5 million vehicles every day between October 27 and November 1 as opposed to 1.4 million on normal days.
