Genesis has revealed its first performance model, the Genesis G80 Sport, at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show – the mid-level executive sedan from Hyundai’s luxury offshoot gains added power, as well as a sportier look to go with it.

We’ll start off with the exterior, where the Sport receives a mesh grille, an aggressive U-shaped front air dam, deeper side skirts and a large rear diffuser with quad exhaust tips. A set of 19-inch cross-spoke alloy wheels, dark satin trim accents and copper highlights complete the look.

Inside, there’s a thicker steering wheel, alloy pedals, genuine carbon fibre trim, black microfibre suede headlining and sports seats upholstered in either black or grey leather, with contrast copper stitching. These are on top of other upgrades introduced for the G80 for the 2018 model year, including standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as an optional Qi wireless smartphone charger.

The biggest news, however, is under the bonnet – a 3.3 litre twin-turbocharged, direct-injected petrol V6 dishes out 365 hp at 6,000 rpm and 510 Nm of torque from 1,300 to 4,500 rpm, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Keeping the power to the ground is upgraded suspension with continuous damping control, along with an augmented rear brake setup and ventilated rear discs.
