To recognise the contributions and efforts of Malaysian motorsports personalities, Sepang International Circuit (SIC), in partnership with the Motorsport Association of Malaysia (MAM), is organising the inaugural SIC-MAM Malaysia Motorsports Awards. To be held on February 13 at the Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur, the awards are intended to honour individuals, organisations and teams for their efforts.
As the first of an intended annual celebration, the awards are for excellence by motorsports competitors and teams, as well as the media. The event also marks the debut of the Malaysia Motorsports Hall of Fame.
“We believe it’s about time we recognised and honoured those who have contributed so much to motorsports in Malaysia,” said SIC chief executive officer Datuk Razlan Razali. “We believe the nominees and eventual winners are shining beacons of excellence and will inspire their peers,” he said.
This year’s theme is “The beginning of motorsports in Malaysia” and will celebrate the greatest names in Malaysian motorsports across Formula 1, MotoGP, and local two- and four-wheel racing classes. There are eight award categories – driver of the year, rider of the year, national championship, people’s choice, team of the year for two- and four-wheels, best journalist and best photographer.
In the people’s choice award, where the public can cast their vote, the candidates are Alex Yoong, Jazeman Jaafar, Zulfhami Khairuddin, Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah, Khairul Idham Pawi, Nabil Jeffri and Adam Norrodin. Hall of Fame inductees are the late Tan Sri Basir Ismail, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, Datuk Abdul Razak DAwood, Karamjit Singh, Alex Yoong, Ron Hogg, Shahrol Yuzy, Khairul Idham Pawi and Zulfahmi Khairuddin.

I thought MAM is currently suspended by AAM… Can they still organise this..?
heroes or just a bunch of privileged kids? besides karamjit i wont consider many of them to be “successful”
Ermm… No Azlan Shah for people’s choice award? BTW for hall of fame i would like to see Bulldog Kwan, Tong Ven Kit, Adi Haslam (Cletus Anthony), Fabian Looi, Tai Seng Kooi, Jimmy Low
Honestly, people like Hanafiah Yoong Yin Fah (Alex Yoong father), Tengku Mahaleel, Karamjit, and those 1970s 1980s local racing drivers deserves to be the inductees of Hall of Fame. Guys who were racing with passion, often out of pocket. These are the true pioneers. The unknown, unsung pioneers who led the way.
Karamjit Singh and the late Tong Veng Kit (TVK) will get my vote anytime….:)
