VIDEO: Driving against traffic, waiting on the opposite lane at a traffic light junction – this time in Johor

It got your blood boiling, didn’t it, the case of the girl in Penang that was high on drugs driving on the opposite side of the highway, leaving a trail of destruction and killing an innocent man? Before we even get a chance to settle, here’s another case of a motorist driving on the opposite side of the road.

Posted by China Press on Youtube, the video, which has two parts, shows a black Perodua Myvi driving on the opposite side of a fairly busy road, approaching a traffic light cross junction. Nonchalantly.

While the recent Penang case was of a woman that was not thinking straight (reportedly high on drugs and fleeing an earlier accident), there’s no way this Johor driver isn’t conscious of what he/she was doing.

The car was waiting at the traffic light for a substantial period on the wrong lane, with oncoming traffic from all directions forced to avoid it. The rogue car also did not make an attempt to jump queue/merge into the correct lane. Surely there were some horns and finger waving by opposing cars as well. The Myvi then turned right and tried to cut to the other side of the road.

It’s absurd and dangerous. Impatient driver trying to get somewhere in a hurry? Traffic didn’t look that bad, and there was no attempt to beat the lights. Lost driver? Possible, as the final part of the video showed the car trying to get back into the traffic light queue. It could also have been a senile elderly driver. Our speculation of course, but it’s good that no one got hurt from this crazy scenario.

Driving against traffic – a sudden spike or just a case of more video evidence being shared online? Be alert and stay safe.

These drivers need to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Endangering other road users is not at all funny.

Sometimes it’s an honest mistake, especially if you’ve been driving in the US for many years or Europe.
