Mercedes-Benz Malaysia teases six AMG 43 models

Something big is set to take place this coming Thursday, with Mercedes-Benz Malaysia teasing the arrival of six new cars as part its celebration of AMG’s 50th anniversary.

The accompanying caption on the company’s Facebook post reads, “six cars, three letters, one engine,” which heavily points towards the German carmaker’s range of “43” branded models that are considered part of the AMG pack.

In total, there are 11 models that bear the “43” name – C 43 Sedan, C 43 Estate, C 43 Coupe, C 43 Cabriolet, E 43 Sedan, E 43 Estate, GLC 43, GLC 43 Coupe, GLE 43, GLE 43 Coupe and SLC 43. For the Malaysian range, you can expect the six to include the C 43 Sedan, C43 Coupe, GLC 43, GLC 43 Coupe, E 43 and SLC 43. The GLE 43 Coupe is already on sale here, albeit still carrying its old GLE 450 designation.

While it is yet to be confirmed which models will be part of the mass introduction, it should be noted that all of them are powered by a 3.0 litre biturbo V6 engine. The mill is tuned to offer differing outputs depending on the model it is fitted to, and is mated to a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission (some models get an AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive system).

On the C 43 Sedan, C 43 Coupe, GLC 43, GLC 43 Coupe and SLC 43, the turbo V6 serves up 367 hp and 520 Nm, while the E 43 gets 401 hp and 520 Nm. All six models are capable of completing the zero to 100 km/h sprint in under five seconds.

We’ll have more details on launch day, but in the mean time, what Mercedes-AMG 43 model will you be looking forward to?

Well at least all the 43AMG models here (besides the SLC43) have 4matic AWD and biturbo V6s.

Hot damn! Wouldn’t mind an E43. Uncle car it isnt. Wonder what BMW Malaysia thinks of this. Perhaps they dropped so many models (including 330i, M3, M5) in order to bring in the sportier “40” cars with their 3litre inline-6 engines.

The 3.0 43 has lower hp but higher torque compared to the 2.0 45. Why don’t they just bump up the 43’s 367hp to exceed the 45’s 381hp. Some people might be put off by the fact that the CLA 45 and A 45 can have higher hp from their smaller engines.

Because 43 is not full on AMG. It’s more like an AMG lite, ala audi S and bmw m240i/m550d. The engine is not AMG hand made, it just a regular merc engine with AMG software and exhaust. To have a real AMG to be lest powerful than AMG lite is a bit stupid

On the E43, the M276 3.0/V6 has 401hp out of the box, which makes it higher than the M133 2.0/4 AMG45 engines.

The same M276 is used on the 400-badge models as well as the smaller 43-badge models, but with different turbocharger configurations.

The M276 may be lower in stock form than the M133, but it leaves more room for tuning.
