As the oldest cycling stage race in Asia, the Jelajah Malaysia will see its 53rd edition in 2017. The race dates back to 1963, and draws an international cast of riders, which will be supported by UMW Toyota Motor from October 3 to 7, flagging-off from UMW Toyota headquarters in Shah Alam, Selangor before ending in Alor Setar, Kedah.
This year’s edition of the race will see 132 riders from local and international teams ride the five-day, 700 km, stage race, rated as 2.2 under the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) classification. UMW Toyota support takes the form of 70 Toyota vehicles, including MPVs and SUVs such as the Avanza, Sienta, Innova and Fortuner, as well as the Hilux pickup.
“Internationally-acclaimed events such as the Jelajah Malaysia are built on clockwork precision in planning and logistics. This demands a support chain that is capable, versatile and highly dependable,” said Ravindran Kurusamy, president of UMW Toyota.
“We hope that through the use of a fleet of Toyota’s support vehicles that are legendary in their reliability, the organising team, officials and media will be able to comprehensively and effectively discharge their roles and create an even more successful event this year,” he continued.
