FIRST LOOK: Mitsubishi Outlander 2.0 CKD – RM140k

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) recently launched a new, locally-assembled variant of the Outlander – the 2.0 AWD – which slots in below an updated 2.4 AWD CBU. We now bring you a first look video, so you can get better acquainted with the new Outlander variant.

Under the bonnet, the base variant carries a 2.0 litre four-cylinder petrol engine, which delivers 145 PS and 196 Nm of torque. The mill is mated to an INVECS-III CVT automatic gearbox, and sends drive to all four wheels via a four-wheel drive system.

Said system is Mitsubishi’s proprietary Multi-Select 4WD that comes with three selectable modes – 4WD Eco, 4WD Auto and 4WD Lock. Cycling through them is accomplished via a labelled button located just beside the handbrake.

Inside, the three-row SUV comes with fabric seats, keyless entry and start, auto headlamps and wipers, a 7.0-inch touchscreen head unit with Apple CarPlay and a dual-zone automatic climate control system.

The 2.0 AWD model is currently being offered with an introductory price tag of RM139,988 (until the end of 2017), and includes a five-year/unlimited mileage warranty. Buyers will get to choose from three exterior body colours – Red Metallic, Solar White and Ruby Black – the last being new and exclusive to the new variant.

Regrettably, they omitted the one feature I looked forward to – auto boot opening.

The current outlander has a big flaw-The AC vents. The AC vents are not really in the middle, so not sure if air flows nicely to the second row. Also not sure if the third row will even get any air as it is too far back.

  • Outlander 2.0

Really underpowered for a 145 ps engine output pulling a kerb weight about 1,500kg

In term of Performance it should be like a turtle couple with a CVT transmission that can either cause the acceleration to be smooth and be sluggish at times .

Most of all , most CVT transmission seems to be giving the loud and strange noise of the car’s engine revving wildly compare to normal automatic type.

To get the vehicle moving fast always the fuel consumption had to be sacrifice meaning quite thirsty in the making. ( high fuel consumption)

Suggest better getting other turbo engine SUVs with 6 speed or 7 speed or 8 speed or 9 speed normal automatic instead without regrets

  • Why all cars launched here priced the same within the same segment? No reason to buy over the market leader of the segment say P2 or Honda.

Why Malaysia model has no ACM and no FCC? Oversea models from April onwards already have aircon vents for rear seats. Malaysia is kinda slow huh…
