A new feature for Google Maps has been introduced, “motorcycle mode”, but is currently available only for users in India. With India having recently over taken China as the world’s largest two-wheeler market, Google India recognises motorcycle and scooter riders have different navigation needs to drivers of four-wheeled vehicles.
Announced during the third Google for India event, held in New Delhi on December 5, the added functionality for Google Maps shows riders routes that use “shortcuts” which are not accessible to cars and trucks. Motorcycle mode also provides estimated time of arrival and traffic warnings.
In addition, road users in India tend to use landmarks for navigation, and as such, the mode will show major landmarks along the ride, allowing for better route planning. This removes the need for the rider to constantly check his or her phone while riding. Following its launch in India, Google Maps “motorcycle mode” will be rolled out in more countries in the coming months.
G maps will have to cater to Indias normalcy of driving on opposite lanes.
Around klcc, pedestrian walkways become bikers lane. 3rd world yobs lulzz
Please do not bring this to Malaysia.
Bikers in Malaysia already has default built in cilok mode, jump red light mode and weave in and out mode default built in their thick skulls.
Except running the red light of course
Red lights. GO or NO go?
Traffic lights is fancy decoration in India.
Q. If a motorcycle rider weaves in and out of traffic daily and beats red lights and doesn’t care because no one can enforce the law and 80% of bikers do it, should anyone care if they die in a crash?
Too many inexperienced drivers make sudden turn & swerve across lanes. Lazy to signal & Waze is their steering wheel.
How about introducing road manners, civility, helmets, cleanliness etc on the roads? Same applies to bolehland…
