JPJ road safety ops during holiday season – report

It’s time for motorists to be more wary this holiday season, as the Road Transport Department (JPJ) is currently conducting a nationwide road safety operation, Ops Patuh 2, according to The Sun.

Chief of enforcement in Selangor Mohd Azlan Shah Othman said that the agency is deploying around 100 enforcement officers daily. “The main objective is to ensure safety for road users, especially during the holiday period,” he said after an operation on the North-South Highway and New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) yesterday. “We are here also to see should motorists need assistance while they’re travelling,”

He urged motorists to be cautious and not use their mobile phones while driving, for which enforcement personnel already issued summonses during yesterday’s operation. “Under Rule 17a of the Road Traffic Rules 1959, the offence of using mobile phones while driving carries a RM300 compound.”

Crossing double lines, failing to use a seat belt, speeding and beating the traffic also carried the same compound. “Those found driving on the emergency lane could face a maximum fine of RM2,000 or imprisonment of up to six months, or both,” he added.

Personally think those don’t want to wear seat belt shouldn’t be fined at all. They are not harming other road users. If they themselves don’t care about their own safety why should others care. Let natural selection works.

If there are 3 people wearing seat belts in a car and one person not wearing, that one person will harm the other three as he/she will become a projectile in a crash.

Personally think those don’t want to wear seat belt shouldn’t be on the road at all. They are harming other road users as any sudden movement, drivers that not belting up will lose control of their own vehicle and might hit others. If they themselves think they got 9 lives, by all means go ahead, afterall many Malaysian motorists are looking to die faster.
