The new Suzuki Swift will be launching in Thailand early next month, Headlightmag reports. Late last year, word from north of the border was that the fourth-generation B-segment hatchback would make its Thai debut in early 2018. The new Swift was made its home market debut in December 2016 while the Swift Sport hot hatch surfaced in September 2017.
In Thailand, the Swift will be a Phase 2 Eco Car, which means that it will be affordable and fuel efficient. There’s a 1.0 litre Boosterjet triple elsewhere, but Thais will get a 1.2 litre naturally-asprated four-cylinder unit dubbed Dualjet. The K12C 1.2L twin-injector engine will go solo, without the integrated starter generator (ISG) that a mild hybrid variant gets in Japan.
This is of course due to cost, as the Swift is an eco car playing in Thailand’s entry level market. Nissan’s Note eco car, launched there early this year, also omitted the JDM version’s e-Power hybrid system, making do with a 1.2L NA engine. The recently rebooted Toyota Yaris will be the car to beat.
The Swift’s K12C makes the same 91 hp/118 Nm as the K12B unit in the outgoing Thai Swift, but it should be more fuel efficient and green to meet Eco Car Phase 2 standards of 23.3 km/l and 100 g/km of CO2 emissions. The new Heartect platform, which is more rigid and less heavy would help the cause – the JDM car’s weight reduction is from 30 to 160 kg.
Cute little hatchback that should be decent to drive as well, but with Suzuki out of the local scene, it’s one that we’ll never see.

Suzuki Visit Malaysia Year 2018.
Suzuki will never come back. Same like Mitsubishi also. Bitter divorce.
Underpowered car. Pickup selow.
Underpowered is Iriz. It is like the Savvy. Joke of the Year.
Swift is fast and agile
With a 1.2L engine? So whats the 0-100kmh time again?
Too bad Baoteng killed off this brand here if not we could be enjoying this fine beauty
Never was a hot seller to begin with.
Bring this in and price the top spec below RM50k.
Why not rm 10k? Better give free. This is malaysia, and this is what malaysian wants: Cheap price for a full fledged high end cars.
Please define “top spec”.
Malaysians are a curious bunch.
We will buy a top spec Saga over a low to mid spec Myvi so we can tell people “This is top spec”.
Whats the reality? Top spec Saga is just as empty as low spec Myvi. Price range is the same.
We have many proud top spec Almera owners who proudly tell the mid spec City owners “This is top spec”.
Whats the reality? Top spec Almera is equally spec’d with the mid range City.
Then there are other weird instances, in the beginning Fiesta “low spec” 1.4 came with 7 airbags whereas the “top spec” 1.6 came with only 2 airbags.
Lets not get fooled by the manufacturers, and lets throw away the bragging feeling of saying “top spec”.
Nein. Midspec City is still far superior than topkek NISMO spec Almera.
Bring in the Suzuki Vitara Sport. TQ
While in Malaysia..
