Ford has revealed the 2019 Mustang Bullitt at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The special-edition S550 facelift, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of Bullitt, will make its way into showrooms later in the year.
The new Bullitt edition uses a 5.0 GT as its basis, with Mustang GT Premium and Performance Package bits strapped on. The 5.0 litre V8 on this one has been retuned to offer 475 hp and 569 Nm of torque, the improved output being part of the update for the Coyote for 2018 (though the Bullitt has around 15 hp more than the stock revised tune).
Standard fit for the variant is an active valve performance exhaust system, complete with new Black NitroPlate exhaust tips, revised to give the car a signature burble. Other performance enhancing items include an open air induction system, a Shelby GT350-derived intake manifold – with 87 mm throttle bodies – and new powertrain control module calibration.
Performance figures include a 262 km/h top speed, 12 km/h more than a regulation Mustang GT. The Mustang Bullitt is equipped with a six-speed MT82 manual transmission, and the gear shifter features a white cue ball shift knob as a nod to the original.
Inside, the leather-trimmed interior features unique green accent stitching on the dashboard, door panels, center console and seats. Also on, a heated leather steering wheel and a 12-inch, all-digital LCD instrument cluster, identical in function to the cluster introduced on 2018 Mustang, but with a unique Bullitt welcome screen that starts in green, with an image of the car depicted instead of the ubiquitous pony.
The Mustang Bullitt uses minimal badging, with only a circular faux gas cap Bullitt logo on the rear centre visible on the exterior, and exterior paint choices are limited to Shadow Black and the classic Dark Highland Green as worn by the 1968 Mustang GT fastback that featured in the movie.
Other homage items are subtle chrome accents around the grille and front windows, a unique black front grille, classic torque thrust 19-inch aluminum wheels as well as red painted Brembo brakes.
Factory-installed options include Recaro black leather-trimmed seats and a Bullitt Electronics Package, which includes navigation, driver memory seats and mirrors, an upgraded sound system and Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert. Additionally, the car can be specified with a MagneRide semi-active suspension system.
