After teasing their arrival, MINI Malaysia has officially introduced two new special editions – the MINI Urbanite and MINI Amplified – ahead of the upcoming Chinese New Year festivities. These models are similar to the Clubman Sterling Edition, in that they are based on current models, but with plenty of additional kit and features.
We start with the Urbanite Edition, which is based on the F55 MINI Cooper 5 Door, and comes priced at RM198,888 on-the-road without insurance. Mechanically, the model retains a 1.5 litre turbocharged three-cylinder with 136 hp and 220 Nm of torque. Together with a six-speed automatic transmission, the car will do the century sprint in 8.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 207 km/h.
Visually, the Urbanite features an additional pair of LED lamps at the front as a homage to clasic MINI rally machines. The model also comes with 16-inch Victory Spoke alloy wheels in black, along with a piano black finish on the light trims and grille.
Some racing stripes round off the exterior revisions, which come in different colours depending on the primary body colour. Customers will get to pick from Midnight Black with red racing stripes as well as Blazing Red or Pepper White with black racing stripes.
Inside, you’ll find the John Cooper Works Colour Line inlay in Glowing Red, together with an Anthracite headliner and Urbanite badge. Drivers will appreciate the addition of a rearview camera with parking guidance lines and obstacle marking functionality, plus a sports leather steering wheel.
Moving on to the RM248,888 Amplified Edition, which is based on the F56 MINI Cooper S 3 Door, sees a boost to the 2.0 litre turbo four-pot thanks to a JCW Pro tuning kit and JCW Pro valve silencer system with Bluetooth controller – previously seen on the MINI JCW Pro Edition from 2016
As a result, there’s now 211 hp and 300 Nm of torque at your disposal, a significant gain from the stock 192 hp and 280 Nm. To reflect the higher output, the Amplified comes fitted with a JCW Aerodynamic Kit with a rear spoiler. It also comes with a piano black grille with matching trim for the front and rear lighting units. The Amplified also receives a set of 17-inch JCW Track Spoke alloy wheels in black.
Like the Urbanite, there are also racing stripes here that are inspired by the MINI John Cooper Works concept from 2014. Colour pairings include Midnight Black with red racing stripes, Chilli Red or Pepper White with black racing Stripes.
The cabin comes equipped with JCW Racing Seats with integrated headrests, dressed in Alcantara/leather with contrasting Red Dinamica stitching. Elsewhere, there are accents in Glowing Red – a JCW hatch exclusive – to go along with the Anthracite headliner, JCW perforated leather steering wheel and Black Chequered interior trim. A rearview camera system is also standard there, along with Comfort Access.
Aside from the above-mentioned items, both cars come with LED headlights, Park Distance Control, dual-zone climate control, 12-colour ambient lighting, 6.5-inch MINI Visual Boost, MINI Connected and keyless start.
Once again, the MINI Urbanite Edition is priced at RM198,888, while the Amplified Edition is RM248,888. Each purchase includes four-year/unlimited mileage warranty with free scheduled service, as well as five-year Roadside Assistance programme.
“This Chinese New Year, MINI is going bold and loud! We have curated two new cars for individuals with discerning preferences to ring in the festivities of the Year of the Dog. The MINI Urbanite Edition is the perfect embodiment of the youthful, fresh and innovative trendsetting style of the brand whereas the MINI Amplified Edition exemplifies the sporty verve and agile handling MINI is known for. All Red and Prosperous for the New Year!” said Han Sang Yun, managing director and CEO of BMW Group Malaysia.
