FIRST DRIVE: 2018 Subaru XV 2.0i-P review – RM126k

On the surface, the 2018 Subaru XV may seem familiar and largely unchanged, but the truth is it’s as new as they come. It rides on the new Subaru Global Platform which ups body and chassis rigidity by 70%, and the platform will underpin all future Subaru models to come.

The XV is available in two variants – 2.0i and 2.0i-P, and both share the same 2.0 litre direct injection four-cylinder Boxer engine producing 156 PS at 6,000 rpm and and 196 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The company’s famous symmetrical all-wheel drive is standard fitment, as is the seven-stepped continuously variable transmission with paddle shifters.

Styling-wise, it’s more pleasant to look at compared to the older model, and that’s achieved without veering too far off from the first-gen XV‘s dimensions. The cabin on the other hand, is the most impressive aspect of progress to this writer.

In terms of safety, the crossover comes with seven airbags (with driver’s knee airbag), ABS with EBD and brake assist, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) as well as rear Isofix child seat anchors. You can have it in six colours, starting with Sunshine Orange, Dark Blue Pearl, Pure White, Ice Silver Metallic, Dark Grey Metallic and Crystal Black Silica.

Still waiting for our car prices to drop 30% as promised to us. This Subaru will be RM37k less if it is 30% less. So RM90k selling price

Kudos to TanChong Motor Image. Superior SUV! Now every Msians can Offroad!!

      Well-loved. Thumb up 72 Thumb down 3
      • Shouldn’t market this as an offroad machine. This is not ladder-frame chassis SUV. The XV is still consider an urban SUV. For this car, the value of the 4WD system actually shines brightly in raining condition. It gives you much traction and stability , it feels safe to the driver. Anyhow M’sians cannot escape the rain as tropical country like this have plenty of it.

  • Offroading: AWD/4WD > 2WD
    On the road: 2WD > AWD/4WD

Since the Subaru EyeSight for XV (2nd half of 2019) need to pay up to RM8,000. Motor Image should add this NOW as optional safety package. Why need to wait for Outback or other higher end models to roll out first? Unless you’re giving EyeSight for XV as free, then fair enough to wait till 2nd half of 2019.

Ha ha ha. The 2nd video is a sure way of winning sales from HRV even though most SUV don’t go off-road. Good review Matt.

Don’t be so butthurt. We all know a 2WD is impractical offroad. If we put this XV vs a LR Defender in full offroad, then the Defender would win hands down. But then, it’s also not apple to apple comparison too.

But then demo does have a point. Imagine climbing a steep wet road from inclined start, the 2WD might lose traction due to the wet road.

power output is just average for a 2.0. Mazda CX3 delivers better power.

Should also do a comparison (between Subary XV, Mitsubishi ASX , Honda HRV) in a slalom and do the “Moose Test”.

This would closely simulate everyday urban driving conditions & help us urbanites decide which SUV meets our daily driving needs.

  • Why doing hill climbing test and compare the performance between XV and HR-V? HR-V is clearly FWD not AWD.
It is as if you are comparing 1.8 Altis with 2.0 Turbo Civic Type-R on a track.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 33
    • Both come close in price. Obviously the XV is better value for money.

1.8 Altis with 2.0 Turbo Civic Type-R? at least have the brains to compare vehicles of similar price.

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 9
      • How about 1.8 altis with 1.5 turbo civic? Similar price. And guess which car will reach a point first. So, do we need to test side to side? No need right? Bcos we already know the result. Get my point, retarded imbecile? The point is, why testing them when we know what the result it will be.
